What's the smallest trailer I can get away with to haul my new JD 5525? I have a Ford 250 diesel to pull it with. Thanks for the help.

Sorry, didn't think about that. It has 3 wheel weights on each rear wheel. Think they are about 100lbs each. It is a 2 wheel drive with loader. I would like to have enough room on the trailer to accomodate my shredder. I have a 7' shredder but hope to have a used 15' some day.

Also forgot to mention, no cab, just canopy for shade.

5885 lbs DRY + wheel weights + canopy...
Well you got a 25.5 gal gas tank...and a nice big radiator as well as having to have more than 25 gal of hydraulic fluid since the pump is rated at 25gpm...:)
Which ever bucket you have...??? Lbs...
depending on what your shredder weighs...you are fast approaching...

A BIG CAPACITY TRAILER...:)

Well, let's see. You have;

6000# for the tractor with fluids
600# for weights
1800# for FEL with bucket
1200# for cutter
(2500# planned - I'll use that)

So you have 10,900# of equipment.
Length is probably 24-26' with the larger cutter and FEL.

You probably need a 26-28' long gooseneck with a capacity of 18,000 pounds dual axle with 4 tires per axle.

Oh, and a 1 ton to pull it with. The 250 diesel can physically do it, but not according to the stickers.

If you only move the tractor with FEL and no cutter you can probably use a 22' long 14k goose. And if you only move the tractor with the cutter and no FEL it can probably be the same 22' long 14k goose.

The problem is the length makes it a heavy trailer (about 6k bare) and to haul 11k you need that 18k total capacity.

I got the PERFECT trailer just sittin down here waiting for ya!

Hey i see this 9 ton trailer, with a very sharp rear end, maybe just an inch thick. It got me wondering, because in Holland everything we put on the road with more than 3500 kg on the axles, needs to have a certified bump bar, at least 100 mm ( 4" ) high as underrun protection for cars that might rear end you. The trailer doesnt have to have the certified underrun protection bumper if the loading deck is lower than 65 cm (bit over 2 foot) above the road level, and the end beam of the load deck is at least 100mm high.

It the safety minded USA, the law has no problems with this sharp rear end construction ?
I suppose y'all know the results if a car hits you from behind and disappears halfway under the trailer deck.... the shock absorbing zones of the car have no chance of doing its work because it slides under the trailer, and the biggest blow is taken by the front windshield....

Renze, you raise a very good point. Most commercial trailers are required to have the sort of bumper bars you describe. They are not however seen on these equipment trailers. I suspect it is because of the difficulty in making a tilt trailer with one - it would require some sort of folding mechanism for the bumper bar, and then how do you know it will be latched in place when an accident happens?
