Trailer Recommendations and prices for B series

Hello all.

I may soon be in the market to purchase a trailer to haul around my B series (2630) tractor. I will probably only need it to transport the tractor 15-20 miles once in a while, so I won't be needing anything fancy. Just wondering what some of you guys are using, for instance, wood floor, width/lenth, tandem or single axel, weight capacity etc.

I'm looking to spend as little as possible, but figuring around $1,000 or so.

Last fall I bought a B26 TLB and a 16' car hauler trailer. The back 3 feet of the trailer has a beavertail (sloped deck), and provides a low loading height. The reason I bought this trailer instead of a deckover equipment trailer is so I could also use it to transport my project car if I needed to.

The trailer has dual 3500 lb axles, brakes on both. Works great! Private sale, great deal at $1800 for a 5 year old trailer that was barely used.

I have a tandem axle 16' car hauler trailer with brakes on both axles. I bought it new for I think about $2K, maybe a little less. Like mrennie, both of the axles are 3500 lb capacity, so by the time you take out the weight of the trailer, it is probably good for about 5K lb. If I trailer the tractor with FEL and the 5' rough cut mower, the wheel on the mower is off the back. It is ok, but if I was to do it over, I would probably get an 18' one which would allow me to center the weight of the tractor over the axels a little better. Mine has ramps that slide up inside the trailer when I am on the road and hook over a lip on the back for loading which works well because I can use it for any width of wheel base.

As I trailer mine about 35 miles each way every other weekend during the summer, I wanted something pretty reliable, but it does not seem like used trailers drop in price much.

I have a 16' dual axle 3500Lbs per axle with the drop down rear web mesh gate. I added 2 more pieces of channel iron on the gate to reinforce it. It does not have brakes. I've hauled an L3240HST FEL on it and figure it was at or slightly over it's limit counting trailer weight. It hauls a B and a BX with ease. This trailer sales for around $1200 new in Casey County, Ky (Liberty) They buy them from Arkansas. Gator Made Trailers are made here in Somerset but they are a bit more expensive. When I went hunting for a trailer I asked several people about single or dual axle. Almost all said dual axle but only one knew why and he uses his trailer alot hauling cars, machine shop equipment and 4 wheelers. He said if one tire goes flat on a single axle trailer you can be in serious trouble in a heart beat. I understood and accepted his explanation and logically could under stand his reasoning and therefore I personally would never buy a trailer to haul my tractor that wasn't dual axle. I would like to have brakes on it but then I would also have to add the brake module/connector to my vehicles which I trade often and I don't want them that bad. I don't trailer my tractor alot and feel safe doing so when I do without the brakes on the trailer. Barlows also sells trailers.

I recently installed a set of Gorilla Lifts on the tailgate, these make it a one handed effort to raise or lower the tailgate now, They came from Northern Tool for $179.00.What a back saver!!! Just something to consider.

I bought a JD 2305 TLB last weekend and my father and I rented a 6x12 U-Haul utility trailer for $39 for 24 hours. The trailer was all aluminum and had double axles but only had a weight limit of around 2300 lbs. The tractor was over the wight limit by a couple of hundred pounds but the trailer handled it just fine on our 100 mile trip. There was no ramp but the back tailgate folded down low to the ground so we just backed up to a curb and drove it off. U-Haul's car trailers dont have a solid floor so it was a no go for moving anything other than a vehicle with a wheelbase around the size of a car's. For the amount of moving around this tractor will do (less than a half dozen moves a year) I think we are going to stick to the U-Haul because its inexpensive and we dont have to store, maintain, or register a utility trailer.

If you were looking for something fairly versatile, I would recommend looking at those hydraulic dump trailers that they sell at trailer places. Some come with ramps that store on the side of the dump body or underneath. They are nice because you can load your tractor on and off then use it to haul gravel, dirt, mulch, etc. once you get where you are going. They are kinda pricey though around 4-5 grand for a slightly used double axle.

Gorilla Lifts are one of the best things I ever bought.

I'm using a 16' tandom axle utility trailer with 3,500 lb. axles. I haul a B1750 with a MMM and loader, so the load's about a ton. The trailer's set up with brakes on one axle, although they need repair. It seems to handle the load without a problem and I have plenty of room to load the tractor over the axles without the box blade extending over the back of the deck. Bought used for $600.00, installed $200.00 worth of decking, built ramps, installed lights and wiring, and a new coupler. Probably have $1,200.00 invested in a trailer that's heavy enough haul my tractor; small enough to not have to loan out for a car hauler; and ugly enough to not attract theives!

On the subject of friends borrowing my trailer, I keep the tires low enough to be able to move the trailer and tell anyone that wants to borrow it that the tires have issues and they can use it, but will have to have the leaks fixed. I generally don't get a second call. If it's a good buddy, I'll air the tires up and loan it to him.

$1,000 is bottom of the barrel. Make sure you get something that will handle your tractor AND implements. And best if it's with implements hooked up.

My ride is sitting on my 18' trailer, and gives me room for expansion.
