Kubota B7800 with loaded R-4s
The car trailer that I haul my Kubota B7800 has a small problem that no one can seem to help me with in the area where I live. The trailer is double axle which are Hayes 3,500 pound. Only one axle has brakes and they are brake shoes. One of the drums has a crack that goes all the way through so it needs to be replaced. I have talked to many stores in my area and no one can help me get a replacement drum for Hayes axles. I've tried auto part stores, Tractor supply, camper supply store. I've sent an e-mail to a place on the net but haven't received a response. Any ideas where I can get a drum? My other option is to go ahead and switch them over to disc but at over $100 for each wheel that's a little much considering no more than I use the trailer.

Are the brakes actually a Hayes brand? Or are they made by someone else and installed on the Hayes axles? Northern Tool sells trailer brakes. You can buy drums from them. Don't remember off hand who makes the ones they sell. And there are other sources also and I am sure others will mention some of those.

You might take the drum to a good trailer or brake shop to have them ID the drum. While you're at it, you might consider brakers for the other axle. If it's heavy enough to need four wheels, it's heavy enough to need four brakes.

Just my 2 cents.

KubotaSteve, I get most of trailer supplies from ,

Redneck Trailer Supplies
Home Office
Springfield, MO
417-864-5210

They have 18 store locations. You could call the number and ask for the nearest store.

I stock a lot of there parts. If you already know the brand?? ....just tell them the size....[10x2 1/4??] ... they will wont to know if it is a 4 on 5.5 or 4 on 4 lug pattern etc. They will tell you how to measure that if you dont know it. If that don't work...pm me and I will give you a part number [I will need 2 pic's] to call them with.

I purchase from the Lincolnton NC store 704-732-3232

Round Lake NY Store 518-877-5056

Thanks again for everyone's help.
I've thought about adding brakes to the other axle, but I use it very little. My dad mostly uses it to pull his old MF135 which he is talking of selling. I'm trying to talk him into getting a dump trailer.
Even when I use the trailer (ok before anyone starts yelling at me, read the next part carefully!) I pull it with my Ford Explorer w/ V-8 and it doesn't have brake hook-up on it, BUT I only move it about 5 miles and in that time I keep my speed down to around 40 mph. Any farther than 5 miles and I go get the old man's pick-up with the brake hook-up.
