Trailer prices

I am looking at getting an 18 foot car hauler to haul my tractor around and was wondering what the going prices were for car haulers? Total weight to be hauled
will be around 3800-4000 lbs. I looked at big tex online but there were no prices listed we have a large big tex dealer in my area also there is a perkins dealer.

For reference, a 16' 7000# trailer from Northern Tool was $1900 earlier this year. Two axles with one set of electric brakes and breakaway system. 15" tires. Solidly built. Local trailer dealers wanted $2100-2500 for the same trailer without any brakes. There was a big unexplainable difference in pricing. All three trailers were almost exactly the same. This is one purchase where a higher price does not necessarily mean a better trailer. Shop around a lot before you buy. Plan on another $80 for a brake controller if you don't already have one.

3 months ago, I paid approx 2800 for a #7000, 7X18, dual axle (both w/ brakes), tilt trailer.

Ive seen the prices vary greatly I never even bothered to look at the expesnsive trailer places. They could be a better trailer though but i dont think $1000 differecne better.

Car haulers here no trailer $1500 no brakes,$300 more for brakes, ramps extra $125 or so.

I am in West TN. 4-6 weeks ago I paid $1120 IIRC for an 18'(2' dovetail) 6'10"(inside fenders) painted wood floor trailer. 2 3500lb axles, one brake axle. New wheels used tires(15"). I cant remember the exact specs, but it was built more heavily than most of the others I looked at. I think the angle iron out of which the frame was built was 4x6. Does that sound right? I will measure it. It has the slide out ramps and seems to be well built. All the wiring is nicely tucked away etc... There is a local distributor of wholesale trailers that sells them direct. I called around for about a week and this seemd the best value locally.

Exactly!! Their advertised price did not include brakes. When you actually bought one from them they asked did you want one or two sets of brakes. THEN, they added brakes to the package at $300 per axle. Those two dealers had the same method of quoting/operating and had the biggest most visible lots on US1. A 16' trailer would have been almost a grand more from them. If you have a Northern Tool or TSC type dealer, go there to do a price check. Even the welding quality was the same on the cheap versus expensive trailers. Same rims, same brand tires, etc.

Around Portland, OR I priced most 16' 7000# double axle with brakes on both trailers around $2600-$2800. I found a lightly used 18' 8000# on Craigslist for $2300.

It seems the dealers and manufacturers tend to hit you on the extras. If you can find a local builder you can get some good prices but they typically make you wait while they build the trailer (2-4 weeks).

I just bought a PJ trailer in N.H. at the local Deerfield town fair. The trailer dealer has a display every year. The trailer is 16 feet long by 60 inches wide between fenders.It is rated 7000gvw. I had to reinforce the gate with extra angle iron, so my 2310 wouldn't twist the mesh. The trailer cost 1960.00 plus 250.00 for contoller and cost for dealer to wire truck. More labor was involved as truck doesn't have modular plug ins. The trailer has Made In Mexico in small print above PJ logo. I thought they were made in Texas. This could have swayed my decision to buy trailer, but it isn't mentioned on their website, where they are made. plowking
