Trailer for 2320

Been a while... but wanted some suggestions about whether you all think this trailer would work for what I feel I need (want!). It's a 5000lb capacity 5x8 Maxum dump trailer. Honestly, I didn't think they made a hydraulic dump trailer this small, but it's intriguing to me because I might be able to get away with not having to own a pickup for quite a while. Don't get me wrong, I love pickups - it's just I do a lot of miles for work and have small kids, so a car works well for me and an SUV works well for my wife. Her Grand Cherokee can pull 7000lbs, so this seems to fit the bill all around: I can tow my tractor; get gravel/mulch/dirt and use it for overflow on camping trips. ****, I can even sleep in the **** thing if I'm told to leave the house! Which is exactly what I'd be told if I spent $3000 on a mini trailer. But, I do see merit in it in that I'd keep it for a long, long time and as I said, it would negate the feeling that I "need" a pickup.

Thoughts? Is 5x8 just too small to fit my tractor? (I'm thinking that since it's got a 5000lb axle, even though the tractor might be located a little too far forward, adding to tongue weight, the beefiness of the axle coupled with the electronic brakes might just work). Sharing experiences would be appreciated! Oh - and while I feel I'd only be trailering the tractor relatively short distances (under 8 or 10 miles on side roads), I don't want to be foolish by getting something grossly underbuilt. Thanks!

Well personally I'd say it would be too small. Dump trailer is nice, but unless you never add attachments off the front or rear you will need more space.

I have an 18 footer and now wish it was at least 22 feet. But I always tend to go over board.

I would think the loader could stay on and have the bucket rest on the tongue of the trailer. That's the only attachment I have. I have no plans for a belly mower and if I had to take it somewhere where a 3-pt hitch attachment would be necessary, I'd borrow a trailer.

I'm thinking the trailer would be used to tow the tractor 2 or 3 times a year, tops. Otherwise, I envision using the trailer for projects 85% of the time.

Well it is a Jeep. Lol. Just teasing. Depending on where you drive I would consider a trailer with brakes though.

you said you were gonna fill it with gravel and etc too. itt doesnt take much to load that to capacity

I can haul my 2320 on a 6x12 tandem I have but it is a tight squeeze with the loader. If I carry my box blade I have to back on, unclick the BB/I match at the front of the trailer, and then turn around, pull on and put the bucket over the top rail in front to get it on (the length including the three point). Therefore, most times when hauling my 2320 I use my 20' trailer so that I have plenty of room to place the load. I think you could get it on a 5x8 trailer but it would be really tight and I would have a concern that although your weight-rating may be OK your load balance may not be. I also do not like 5 foot wide trailers much, especially if they have fixed sides like a dump trailer would. Inevitably, once purchased, there is something to haul that is too wide and they are not as popular for resale if one decides to trade out or sell for something larger for the same reason. Although it still fits into your tow vehicle spec, the 2320 weighs about 2300-2400 pounds with a loader and standard 53" bucket, without loaded rear tires. With them, it weighs closer to 2700#, with no other attachments. This would still keep you at or under 4,000 pounds for gross trailer weight, but is getting into some real weight for the Jeep. I do wonder though if the weight on the tongue of the Jeep will be too high without the room for positioning the load. As you know and I have experienced also, towing 7K with a well-balanced load and a low tongue weight would be easier than a pendulum of 4K wobbling down the road or exceeding one's tongue hitch weight. Though I have no experience with the trailer you mention, I would suspect it difficult to have an acceptable hitch weight with a trailer that short and that load (the 2320). My personal thought is to pass and get a bigger trailer, but if you are only going to be moving your tractor a few times (and you know this is not likely to change) and just a few miles each time, you might be able to get by with it. I would really consider going a foot wider and 2 feet longer at least to make it a comfortable fit and maximally safe.

Isn't an 8 foot dump trailer is too small for a 2320? With the tractor against the front, will the rear gate close if the 3PH isn't removed? With that tight of fit, how will you tie it down?

I can't imagine doing this. I have a 16 ft. trailer for my 2320 and, even without the loader on I wouldn't be comfortable with anything less than a 12 foot trailer. As far as towing with the loader on the tongue - real good opportunity to vbend up the tow vehicle when you turn and also almost guaranteed to have too much weight on the hitch.

I would suggest you get a double axel 7k landscape trailer at least 14' for a 2320 your going to need that much trailer to balance the load on the small suv it maybe rated a 7k but I would not tow more than 3500 with it also you need a brake controller I have three new trucks silverado 1500 crew and silverado 2500Hd duramax and would only pull 7000 with the 1500

Thanks for the thoughts, advice and experience. I had a sense that it would be too small for the tractor, but think overall it's the right trailer for me. As I mentioned, 5x8 is a nice size for just about everything else (besides a tractor).

So, for those couple of times a year I tow my tractor, I'll do it with the right piece of equipment: my friend's flatbed tow truck. Besides, it's a lot more fun to play with all the hydraulics on that thing than the single up/down button on the trailer!
