Tractor
Kubota's - B7610, M4700
It's time I started looking for my next tractor. This one will be more general farm use than my B7610 (using for wood trails, food plots). Criteria I'm filtering selection with are:
I want to be able to buy a Woods sub frame for my BH70-X.
I want more than 40HP
I want a loader
I want 4x4
I'd like to be able to fit it on my present trailer (Hudson 18' including a 2' dovetail, 6 ton GVWR) with the FEL on, but not necessarily the BH or anything else.

For example a Kioti DK55 specs say it's just over 11' long w/ 3pt, I figure it would fit w/ the FEL over the trailer tongue.

Am I thinking in the right ballpark?

There's only about 20 models that are over 40HP that fit my first FOUR criteria.

So how much tractor length does the TBN community think I can fit on a 16 foot flat portion of trailer w/ a 2' dovetail and about 4' over the trailer tongue if I HAVE to use it.

Just because it fits, doesn't mean it's a good idea. ;)

Personally, I don't want the FEL sticking over the tongue. Makes the load unstable, and you can seriously mess up your tailgate!

But, the biggest factor will be weight capacity. Although you say that you don't intend to carry it with the BH attached, you may need to, and that would probably overload your trailer. The only thing worse than a blown trailer tire is a blown trailer tire with a load on it.

Something else to consider, with that much of a load on a tag-a-long trailer, the handling can get really hairy. You probably should just start looking for a 24' goose-neck.

Just my :2cents:

My first thought was also the issue of being able to balance it. Usually if you put the bucket out over the tongue, it's gonna put too much weight on the pickup and hitch.

just curious, what size is the pickup? 1/2 ton? 3/4?

My Jinma 284, only 28 HP, will barely fit on a 16' trailer with the FEL and mower hanging 3' off the back. It hangs over a good foot on my 18' trailer.

You need more trailer.

Real world: If you are like most tractor owners and are just moving the tractor occasionally near home (not on serious inclines, high speeds, interstates, long distances, heavy traffic times, daily, etc.) you will be fine with your current setup (if you have trailer brakes) with good driving and some common sense. Might want to add some overload shocks or air bags to your pickup if tongue weight is a problem......

TBN world: You'll need a CDL, new kenworth, lowboy AT LEAST big enough to haul a D9, and escort vehicle to even THINK about approaching the culvert at the end of your drive........

How true, especially the TBN World part! :)

I've a relative's 24' (about) gooseneck about 2 miles down the road IF I need it. And the tractor weight I'm shooting for is 6K w/o FEL or BH (which weighs 800lb), so I figure 8K w/FEL max, plus 2K for the trailer on a 12K rated trailer.

The dually 2002 F350 4x4 in my sig, rated for 12.5K tow.

The Jinma is 3.08m by 1.44m, the Kioti 3.26m by 1.76m, so the Kioti is about 0.18m (or 0.6 foot) longer. But I have no need to transport it on that trailer w/ a mower hanging off the back.

That's what I was thinking. My dually has an upgraded tow package, it should be able to handle the tongue weight. The trailer has brakes on all 4 wheels.

The Kioti was about the highest HP that I found a subframe mount for on the Woods links I have. I expect the other tractors will be smaller.

From the responses it seems that it's readily doable. Thanks guys.

If I had a dually and a 18' foot trailer I'd use that most of the time and borrow the gooseneck for more serious hauling.

Overhang isn't a big deal with proper safety precautions.... just look at a log truck. Or one of those delivery rigs with the ENTIRE machine handing off the back of the rig..........

You're talking apples and oranges. A log truck or a building material rig with a Spyder forklift hanging from the back of the trailer are Class 8 heavy trucks with trailers DESIGNED to be loaded that way. The OP is asking a question about towing a small utility trailer, loaded with a farm tractor, behind a pickup truck. (even if it is a 1 ton)
Also, it's not the overhang that's the problem, it's the balance of the load. If the trailer is tail-heavy, or even too tongue-heavy, it can become uncontrollable, regardless of whether or not it is overloaded.

Just a suggestion:
Weigh your truck and trailer empty. (get the weight of EACH axle)
Then, weigh again with the tractor, FEL, etc, loaded on the trailer. (again, each axle)
IIRC, you want about 10% of your gross (loaded) trailer weight on the hitch.
You might be surprised what it all weighs. (my '02 F-350 CC Dually weighs over 8,000 empty)

BTW, just because something might be "doable," doesn't mean it's a good idea. :D Just be careful and if it feels squirrelly, go 2 miles down the road and borrow the gooseneck.
