Kabota 7500DT
I need some help figuring whether a trade is worth it and if so what the $ difference is.

Somebody close by has a Kubota L3410 with 357 hours, clean, fairly new tires, and an LA 481 FEL and is asking $12500. He wants a smaller tractor better for just mowing. Don't know the year.

I have a B7500 with a Kubota FEL, 50 hours, clean, and with standard Kubota FEL. Don't know the year, maybe 5 years old. I've got about 20 acres and am starting to think the B7500 is a little too light for plowing, rooting rocks and dragging stumps, etc. although I haven't tried yet. A few questions:

1) If we traded, who owes who any $ ?
2) Will the horse power difference (around 10+ HP) be small enough that I wouldn't notice an appreciable enough difference in performance to make it worth it, especially since I <know> my tractor and it is pristine (previous owner was a wus and had only put 40 hours on it). I don't know how the L3410 has been treated.
3) What features would I be gaining or losing in a trade ? For example, does the L3410 have essentially the same auxiliary hydraulics, or more powerful, and if so, what could I do with it ?

Thanks for any insight,

Bob

Is the L3410 a hydro or gear tractor?
What year?
The L3410 is twice the tractor the B7500 is as far as what you would be able to do with it.

I would think you would need to give him a few $$ (don't know how much) or if he is willing to trade even i would go for it if the L3400 is in nice shape! seems to me a B7500 is a bit small for 20 acres, depending on your needs. WHAT DO YOU THINK? is the most important.

I would think your tractor may be worth about $10,000. It is an older model and is probably out of warranty. I would think you may have to give him about $3,000 to make it a fair trade if the L3410 is a HST model. At least this is what I would be willing to offer him or possibly more.

I have a L3710 HSTw FEL and think I paid about $23,000 for it a few years ago. I also owned a B2410 HST w FEL. The grand L series is significantly more capable and stronger. The L 3410 will give a smoother ride working in the fields like with brushhogging.

I suggest you type in tractorhouse.com, and get the value of each tractor with comparable models and hours. Once you are on the site, select tractors under 40 HP. I think you may owe some money in the exchange; unless the L3410 shows neglect? This will give you a starting point, and peace of mind knowing the values of each, in the used market? I believe tractorhouse sells on a consignment basis, with tractors all over the U.S.; the price for your location may very from others? The L3410 will be much more capable for the 20 acres. If you are doing ground engaging work, I would consider the tires a point of interest on the L3410. R-4's are a compromise over the R-1's.

Just another comment that has been stated many times here; the smaller tractor (B2500) is capable of doing mostly the equal work of the L3410, but will require more time. The real advantage of the smaller tractors in my type of work, is being able to perform in a confining area, avoiding "manual labor!" Consider the long term use of each, before making your decision?

I have a 2002 B7500-DT and I paid $8200 for it and it was a private sale. It also included a FEL and a yard rake and had 210 hrs on the tractor. I think it was a good deal for me. The loader I have is the LA-302 which is small, but works fine for what I use it for. It only has a lift capacity of arund 350 pounds.

I think you could be asking around 10K for you tractor and maybe a bit more if it is an HST model.

So if the person gets anywhere near that price then I would jump on the deal if it cost me around 2 K, anything more than that becomes I want it badly and not that it is worth it.

I don't think the hours has too much to do with it as it seems like he is doing mowing with the unit and as long as the filters are clean and he has done the oil changes it should be in great condition. These little tractors seem to just run for ever. My last Kubota was an L-2550 1985-6 and I paid 6000 for it back in 1993. Wife thought I was nuts. Will I sold it last summer for $6,000 and that was exactly what I wanted for it. Goes to show there is a butt for every seat!
