People,
I am considering trading my 3204 Cub Cadet for a BX 1500 tractor. I am just looking for input from owners of this particular model so I can decide what route I want to go. I have talked to my dealer here in Lynchburg, VA and told him what I want and they are working on pricing. I've only got around 60 hours on the Cub, but I think I would rather have a Kubota. I have 15 ac., but very little to mow, mostly wooded, but hilly ground. I will be mostly hauling, moving gravel and/or dirt, but can't afford the bigger tractors right now.

Any INPUT? Thanks,

I am mowing (mainly) 1 ac with a bx1800 because it was cheaper than the bx1500. The bx22xx seems and the bx1500 seemed to be the hot models hear and the guy wanted to move the 1800 he had

I have a BX1500 on 4.5 mostly wooded acres. I mow about 1.5 acres, and clear a 300 foot dirt/gravel driveway of snow (in Eastern MA - snow, but not huge amounts) with a FEL/BB combination. For those uses, plus some general usage (mulching, firewood hauling, etc) the BX1500 works great. I couldn't be happier with it.
That said, since you're stepping up in size/capability/etc, as most others on this board will say, you might want to make sure you won't wish you stepped up even further - budget allowing, of course.

Hello from another North Shore dweller! I have a BX2200 with the same set up as you for clearing snow. I though we were going to be in trouble the way the year started but it handled December fine and the rest of the winter has been merciful. Did you get your tractor locally?

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! u say very little mowing, were u intending on getting mmm?. not getting the mmm might save u a few $$$ and u could mabey jump up in size a bit. also if u plan on working in the woods, if i am not mistaken the bx models have a fairly low ground clearence. but the bx owners would know more about that.

"...mostly wooded, but hilly ground..."

I agree with Frank, if you are going to be working under those conditions then take a good look at the ground clearance of the BX. It looks fairly high at first glance, but get down on the ground and look under the front axle and the transmission to see what the limits are.

I love my BX, and have used it to do a little clearing in the woods, and even managed to get it into the old hog pond (no longer filled with water), but I had to plan my moves carefully. If you plan a lot of bashing around over deadfalls, etc., you may need a taller tractor.

I started out in a similiar situation when I traded a 1650 Cub (16hp) for a B7100 Kubota( also 16hp). I couldn't believe the difference between the gas and the diesel. The poor old cub struggled with a 50"MMM but that little kubota would pull a 60"MMM like it wasn't there! Next you throw in the 4WD and hillsides, winter all the little things become so much easier! The only thing I can add, and others on TBN have/will voice is,buy the most tractor you can afford. I have yet to be upset about having too much horsepower or too many attachments!! I say this because as wonderfull as the B7100 was I wanted more and ended up with a B2400 with FEL and powersteering( LOVE that PS).Good Luck with your decision!
