Tractor
2013 John Deere 5083e, JD 2550, JD 1020
Looking to upgrade tractors. Just wondering what everyone thought a good price on the trade should be. It has about 150 hours, with a cab, 553 loader and is like it rolled off the floor. Always shelter kept and only used for hay. Any thoughts would help.

Just for "kicks and giggles," I would suggest talking to your JD dealer. (where you bought it) Tell him what you're wanting to do. See what kind of deal he can give you, then shop other dealerships. (including other brands that you might be interested in) Chances are, the JD dealer can sell that tractor for more money than the competition can, and thereby offer you a better trade-in. (I'm sure a 2013 model could be financed through JD credit)

What "upgrades" are you looking for? More HP, larger size and capacity, or just more bells and whistles?

Is it the pre-tier 4 tractor? If so that will command some value as well as it being really clean and low houred. I honestly don't see why you couldn't get really really close to what you paid for it. Do you already have the next tractor in mind? If not I can pm you some dealers that will give you too dollar for your tractor.

Yea it is a tier 3. That's why I jumped on it. It was the last one this dealer had. Not real sure of what tractor I want next. I'm open to exploring different brands. Just have started looking and trying to figure out how much equity I have....kinda makes a difference, if it's even worth exploring. Thanks(sorry if there is grammar issues, this new phone and me aren't getting along...it's winning lol)

Well if I were going to trade a 5083 I wouldn't even bother messing with another 5 series. It would be a 6 series all the way. Maybe a rental return? Or are you wanting to go smaller? What will the new tractor be doing that the one you have now couldn't?

I've actually thought about going to something smaller like a 4x20. Sounds silly I know but we just don't do as much hay as we did in the past. That's why there's not many hours on this. But I still want to keep a cab.

I just helped a friend research and finalize a deal on a nice used Kubota L4240 with only 250 hours in it. The funny thing is in the back of my mind I kept thinking "you know a tractor that size sure would be a lot more handy to have for my loader tractor then this 67hp beast(my 5325)". I might end up borrowing his tractor soon. :)

That's just it, I feel like I'm not getting all the use I could be out it. It sure would be nice to use a finishing mower in a cabbies tractor rather then an open tractor. One of those hard calls haha

To be honest I'd never really taken a hard look at Kubotas or knew a lot about them until recently. Went with him to a local dealer and sat on some and checked them out and I came away impressed. I have never really been interested in the Deere tractors under the 5 series. I just thought the price didn't match the value you got with them. If I had to buy me a smaller tractor I'd really have to be convinced not to go buy a Kubota.

Yea that's my thing to...it's crazy the price of them. Any idea what the kubotas were running in the 40-50 hp range? The only thing is my trade. I feel like jd will give me the most...but that doesn't matter if I get a better deal on a kubota.

I have no clue about Kubota prices. What I can tell you is I had a John Deere dealer out of state give me a whole lot more for my trade in then any dealer in my state. Matter of fact my friend traded in a John Deere 950 to a new holland and Kubota dealer out of state recently and they gave him $1500 more then any John Deere dealer would around here.

I was offered about 48k trade in on a New Holland for mine with almost 700 hours. However when you trade in they usually give you a good number but then mark up the price on what you are buying. I figure once I get my transmission fixed I will try to sell it private sale for somewhere close to 50, which seems to be the going rate for a 12 with similar hours here. Tractors seem to hold value much better then cars.

Spoke to one dealer in Va. and he offered 35k on a trade. A lot less then I would even think about.

the dealer offered you $35000 for the tractor.how much did you give for it when you bought it.sounds to me like your taking a nice hit on that tractor.

$11000 is a pretty steep trade in drop for 2yr old tractor.i only lost $6000 in 2.5yrs tading a mx5100hst rops 4x4 in for a 7040SU rops 4x4 fel hydro shuttle.

One dealer is wanting to know my payoff before giving me a price. Any thoughts on that.

Most dealers around me won't touch a piece of equipment with a lein on it. I'm surprised you found a John Deere dealer who's at least willing to do that. I'm guessing it's a Deere dealer right?

then tell them the payoff price to trade tractors.then tell them your not coming off that price.and that youll just keep the tractor if they dont do the deal.thats what i done when i traded almost 14 months ago.
