Kubota B7100
Greetings,
I have a Kubota B7100 HST-e, two wheel drive hydrostatic, that I bought this summer. Engine is 16hp with 13hp at the PTO, with 400 lbs lift at the 3 pt. It has a 60" mmm. I bought it three months ago and have used it to mow this summer.

I am looking at a 1998 B2400HE, also two wheel drive and hydro. I looks to be 14 years newer, bigger motor (24hp) more lift capacity, and all around in better shape. 1100 hours. Seller bought it this summer from the original owners. 54" mmm.

The 1984 B7100 has been rode hard and put up wet, hour meter stopped at 1100 but who knows how long ago that was, and needs a lot of small things to be put right although it runs and cuts well. The deck has rust and weld repairs, missing belt guard, three-pt hitch leaks down, all lights are gone, cracking tires, etc.

I'd appreciate advice on this switch. I think I can make the deal overall for about $500-$800 cash cost if I can sell the B7100 for what I think it will bring.

I know the B7100 has a great rep but I know little about the B2400.

Thanks in advance for your hlep!

I think I got the lift capacity from the owners manual or the Kubota web site, not sure, I'll have to check that when I get home.

OK, I checked and the 400 lb 3-point lift capacity is from the Kubota owners manual. However, I understand that lift can be measured at different points, and the farther back from the rear axle the less the lift, unless I totally misunderstand the geometry. So, the higher number may be measured at a different point. The same table in the owners manual shows a maximum weight for an implement to be a rotary tiller at 400 lbs (also indicates 380 for a box blade and 300 for a rear blade). So it is apparently referencing lift at the point where the implement would be, not at or near the axle.

That said, to better compare apples to apples, tractordata lists the B2400 at 1280 compared to 1036 for the B7100. My guess is that would translate into about a 25% increase in implement size. If someone has a b2400 owners manual handy I'd be interested to know what it says.

As prviously stated I have the Operator's Manual for the B1700, B2100 and B2400 tractors...

this is recommended max weights for implements etc. for the B2400

Rotary tiller 465#'s
disc harrow 420#'s
rear blade 400#'s
box blade 500#'s
back hoe 700#'s
snow blower 450#'s
trailer 2200#'s
rear mount mower 500#'s
mmm 300#'s

Very helpful indeed, many thanks! And a much better apples to apples comparison. Looks like a significant increase in lift.

I made this same swap about 5 years ago. My 7100 was a 1998 4wd model and I upgraded to the 2400 4wd mainly for the power steering and FEL. The lift capacity between the two is pretty minimal as the 7100 will pick up enough to make the front end float. In all honesty, had I not needed the FEL, I wouldn't have traded to the 2400. I think the B7100 is more of a work horse. The one thing that my 2400 does do better at is pulling a 5ft box scraper. The B7100 would pull it, but would just run out of traction, not horsepower, before the B2400 would.

Thanks for the input. The 2400 got away from me before I could get it so the question is no longer relevant, but the research was interesting anyway! Who knows what deals the end of the mowing season may yet bring!
