Tractors that were easier to repair for backyard mechanics

Some of the newer tractors have more bells and whistles making them a little harder to work on. What were some of the simpler tractors to work on ? I read somewhere the old Massey痴 135 were wanted in india because they could strip them and repair them when needed. Simpler and more robust. Less to go wrong.

Well, old Massey's are popular, here I live exporters drain away old MF, Ford's, and Fiat for shipment to Africa, pays quite high prices to.

A reason old MF are popular is that they are still more or less still in production, you can buy a brand new 2020 MF35, and that's the grandfather of most old classic MF witch came for sale in 1956.

Amazing. Like going back in time seeing them make them still like that. Where are they being made? I can't see most small acreage owners want them with the more modern tractors and 4x4 but I think there's something to be said for the simpler design, they been around forever because backyard mechanics could make them work over and over. I like it. How much are they? Look at the engine RPM that achieves 540 on the pto...

Another vote for Ferguson, TO 35 is very easy to work on, not that it has needed much over the years.

Farmalls...Cubs,C,H,M they were basic didn't have work around other parts often to fix the problem.

My dad had a Ferguson, me 135MF and Ford 860. Tough as nails tractors and easy to work on. Then came kubota 4x4s. Early ones were easy to work on too but could do exponentially more work on our hilly ground. Tractor without a FEL is only half a tractor now.

My 1964 MF135 diesel was pretty simple. Only difficulty is in getting the injection pump timed properly. But practice makes perfect.
Also old Farmall tractors (Cub, A, B, H) are easy to wrench and parts are readily available.
Same with 2-cylinder JD Johnny Poppers (A, B).

I like bells and whistles if the bells and whistles are whistling my tune, trouble is in the last ten years the tune is all this emissions crap. But then again the trouble I have with old tractors like the 8N is, they are to high gear in 1st, not 4 wheel drive, no diff-lock and no FEL, change that and I'm all in.
