I just got a new I Phone and am really impressed! I am not a techno weenie but this I phone is awesome. It is so simple and intuitive to use, is incredibly fast and useful. I use it as an alarm clock, checking e-mails, pulling up instant weather on an hour by hour basis (including wind direction which is great for hunting plans) and a doppler map. I even have Google Earth with an aerial photo of my hunting lease with stands marked. But most of all, when I am bored on my stand, I can access TBN and read posts. Pretty cool! The TBN ap is really nice. I even use it at lunch rather than reading the newspaper or magazine. What an amazing tool.

I agree the iPhones are nice. I am on my second iPhone. My wife had a black berry and switched to an iPhone. I also browse TBN from the deer stand. Well from one stand. Reception is spotty at our hunting camp.

I have had a Blackberry Curve for 2 1/2 years now, wife just got the latest generation Iphone 4G, her new toy gets no better reception than my antique does, and she really envies the keyboard on my device. My major gripe about the touchscreen keyboard Droids and the Iphones are even if you have small hands it's hard to use the keys without making a mistake.

I have pretty meaty paws and haven't had any trouble out of mine. I think maybe it's just adjusting to it. I'm on my 3rd iPhone and won't be switching back.

And yes it is awesome for sitting in the stand. Just be battery conscious. I've screwed myself a couple times. Pretty funny to be geeking out and look up to see deer around you!

I use the iPhone 4, great improvement over the 3GS when viewing pictures on TBN. With my old phone, the app would crash about every third picture.

My only complaint now, you can't read the posters profile - so you have NO idea where people are located. I hardly ever use the computer for my TBN fix. Guess I am gonna have to get a tablet so I can relax in my easy chair or bed and cruise the forums.

I can see how easy it would be to get engrossed in a thread, and look up to see white tail heading over the hill!!

Sorry guys, but I guess it must be the angry middle aged man showing up here. I've moved to the cell phone stage in my life, kicking and screaming mind you. But the new technology that everyone seems to embrace I just don't get.

I'm 57 years old and my day starts early and is fairly non stop until around 6:00 pm. But to me, nothing is more enjoyable than the time after 6:00 pm, or the weekends, when I am away from the computer, cell phone, etc. I admit I am not a hunter any more but spend a lot of time in the woods in hot pursuit of firewood. I also admit I take my cell phone for emergency purposes only. Its just a time that I enjoy without the need to interact with the world. Its my time even if only for a few hours.

I accept its a different time and that I must accept these changes and for the most part I do. But is just seems as though we could survive a few hours in hour lives without the access to the internet, music downloads, movies and all of the other options that these new machines offer. I don't begrudge the posters on this topic if they enjoy these and use them. Who knows, maybe if I had one and after 100 hours of intense training in their use would have one with me at all times. But for now, I will just settle for the cell phone.

Of course, my grandfather if he were alive would think I was crazy for feeling I needed to have a cell phone as well. So it is a probably a case of the angry middle aged man not prepared to embrace the new technology. But for now I am going to hold out as long as I can.

Oh, I too love my downtime - without the "do everything - cell phone leash". But, part of my downtime includes perusing online offerings such as TBN, Craigslist, EBay and other sites. And I might want to do this wherever and whenever. (at my shop sitting at my workbench, laying on the couch, in my truck while the wife is shopping, etc). Right now I am grabbing lunch at Chili's...three hours from home. Just got done looking at a project for work.

I know that sounds contradictory, but I don't have to answer the phone, or reply to a text, or answer or even read that email. I can ignore all of those and simply enjoy some time on the Internet.

Another component to this thread, I am 50 years old. I DO NOT want to be the befuddled old man that can't figure out have to change the channel on the TV. So I am making a conscious effort to embrace technology. By doing so, I hope to extend my employability. This is critically important since I have a bad back that makes manual labor work out of the question.

To each his own, and I am not going to be critical of anyones decision in this area.

Fortunately my wifes new "smartphone" is tax deductable as she uses it for her business.. yep about the same amount of money as what you mentioned.

Great tools. I spend hours a day looking at various sites for work and play. My I-phone and I-pad are for work as a pilot. I-pad replaces 30 pounds of manuals for navigation charts.

But, when situational awareness and immediate action are required, I've seen people totally oblivious to their immediate surroundings and when when they should be doing something, they are instead typing with both thumbs and basically "not there" mentally.

I'll admit to occasionally looking at a freshly received email while driving. Its is stupid, I know its wrong, and I'm trying to stop.

They are tools like guns and chainsaws, not inherently bad, but must be used wisely.

I have an iPhone 4S I got about 2 months ago. My first iPhone. it is pretty mch all I use to get on TBN and most of my other regular sites. I love the weather pull down screen, and can get directions or maps at the push of a button. Angry Birds is fun too. I use it when hunting, but only when i find myself dozing off and need something to do to keep me occupied.

Smart phones, I-Pads, cell phones; are a marvel of modern technology. But using one of these conveniences while hunting? When I am hunting, I am focused on shooting the game animal that I am hunting at the time. I want to remain alert to any signs or indications that the prey is present. Such as a rustle in the leaves, or a partial view of a deer's rack, or the call of a crow. I do not hunt over a food plot, so I need to retain all my basic instincts and senses. If I'm successful in the hunt, and after I prepare the meat;etc, then I may choose to get on the Internet. I will probably use my cell phone to call Game & Fish and probably my Wife. In essence, modern devices will always play a role in our modern society, but using one to view websites while hunting, is definitely not a viable concept in regards to my way of thinking. Sincerely didn't mean to "step on anyone's toes"; just my thoughts.

I thought I might get beaten up a bit with my post so I am accepting the critique. But as I said I don't have a problem with the folks who use these gadgets. And I was willing to poke a little fun at myself with my comment about how the previous generations would think the need for a cell phone is a bit crazy.

I enjoy the time I spend on the internet on this site and host of others so I'm not necessarily locked in the stone age. I've even started to "text" on the cell phone. I just wonder if the "addiction" is getting a bit much to this technology. I just thought that if it has gotten to the point we can't enjoy the serenity of the woods on a beautiful fall day in November for a few hours without these electronic tools then maybe the "addiction" is out of control.

But again, to each his own as one poster said. Perhaps I too will fall to the temptation. My wife has one and spends hours on it. But for now I can live with computers in the house and workplace. The cell phone for now will have to suffice.

I also like Apple products too but I do not Love Apple fanatically as many I see at the Apple retail store sure seem to. However, quite candidly I do spend lotsO time in front of the TV in the evenings with my Mack Book Pro on my lap n the TV remote at my side as I am doing now watching an old Twilight Zone as I am posting this on TBN.

That said.

I gave my wife an iPad for her B day last May. Almost immediately she gave it back n said she won't be using it much so I should just consider the iPad mine. Funny now about 6 months after she gave me back the iPad I gave her, I seem to almost always see my iPad stuffed in her purse. I also can't help notice she even remembers to keep it charged up, something she still does not do for her iPhone......

I have learned to not say a word, I guess I just smile inside a tad............
