I have a 1972 “IH” model 574 that I use to grade roads and other light duty. Being so old, the wiring harness insulation is so brittle that it is falling apart. Case IH says they do not make the parts any longer. I made the front harness myself but the rear harness is a bear. Is there an after-market parts dealer that would handle anything like this?

Ivan Gleize,
Check out this company. They make universal wiring harnesses, designed for automobiles, but will also work for a tractor. If you can't find something that will work for your application, give them a call. They have excellent tech support and a great quality product.

Painless Performance

I would remove your old wiring harness taking lots of digital pictures and marking where each wire was connected.

Then it would be a pretty easy matter to duplicate the original harness using new wire and loom.

I am in the process of rewiring my 1968 IH 2444.
I view it as an opportunity to improve the wiring. For example some new additional lights on the front and on the Anti-roll device. A heavy duty outlet on the rear for an inverter or winch, adding a fuse block so that everything does not depend on one fuse and averything quits if one thing shorts out, etc....
Not origional but improved :)

Might also try California Rewire

I used them to rewire my old Jeep. They made a kit that had all the wire, connectors, fuse box ect, with a point to point wiring instruction. They make fuse boxes and wire kits for old T-bucket hot rods; They could use that fuse box and make you up a nice wiring setup.

I went the quick but expensive way to rewire my '71 IH444 that had the same problems- dry and brittle. New tractor and glad I did - that old machine was beating me to death - already pulled one hernia horsing it around.

Tex I have had no other problems with the old tractor, My $4,000 loader tractor is fine for me. Has only quit on me once and that was a rotten wire.
I am allergic to debts.

If my IH444 had been in better shape I might have tried to work with it. I took it to settle a debt and it had been abused. My new Kubota helps me accomplish things that I could not without its features.

I don't like debt either but sometimes you have to "bite the bullet".

I second PineBridge's suggestion that you take pictures and build a new one yourself. The only problem might be is if your tractor uses push on plastic ends that are not available. I have found that most of these supplies can be had at the larger auto parts dealers. I buy my wire from Del City - Your Direct Source for Professional Grade Electrical Supplies because they have bulk rolls and it is a good automotive quality wire. You either need patience to fix the old wiring or money to buy a new tractor. Patience is a lot easier to come by today, and despite what others might say, your spare time is always free..... Dusty

Have you tried your Case/IH dealer? I was able to get a new replacement wiring harness off the shelf from a IH dealer for my 1949 Farmall C.
