Tractor Trailer hits and kills horse and rider.

Just saw this horrible accident in our area. A 12 year old and a man where riding horses along a major road when the kids horse spooked for some reason and ran into the road. The horse and child where hit by a semi and killed. The semi tried to miss but there was nothing he could do. The driver was not physically injured but was so distraught he had to go to the hospital.

I saw a man leading two horses across the road a few weeks ago. Kinda bothered me since the road can be busy and if one of those horses got loose it could be a bad accident. The first thing I though of was some idiot might honk the car horn and scare the horses...

Horses and roads don't go together. We had 300 horses and wagons go past the house on our dirt road yesterday. I saw plenty of spooked horses and big eyed riders. I had to load one horse with my loader that died about a half mile from the house. They didn't know what he died of.

That is a terrible tragedy. It always makes me really nervous when I see a horse and rider on the side of the road. The little town of 1200 that I live a couple of miles from often sees riders coming into town. It is great training for the horse but is very risky and only for the most experienced horse and rider. We have a pretty bullet proof 24 year old horse that has great training. He had never spooked until one day my wife rode past a pasture of llamas. That horse started tap dancing and it was all my wife could do to maintain control so you never know.

It's not unusual in this area to see riders along the highways riding in the ditches. Always worried me as some of the riders are not very old.
Last year on vacation on the way to Colorado, going thru Amarillo there were 7 or 8 saddled horses tied up outside the Dairy Queen right in town. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Apparently a group out for a ride decided to stop for lunch.

this past week my neice's had one of her new horses get out and aws hit & killed it was about 5 mo in foal. I do not know the state of the car? she will more than likely get contacted with in days by some shady lawer demanding thousands of $

anyhow it happens here alot due to the amount of amish whom use our roads to commute.
