I just went back down to the Deere dealer. No salesmen there today, so I couldn't really talk turkey or get anything done--like make an impulse buy. I drove the 4520 and the 4720 around the yard.
The 4520 had trouble with the tachometer, which was not working. That make it hard to really test it, I also thought the steering was making funny sounds as I drove it around. I didn't care too much for that.
The 4720 was a bit more fun. I figured out the cruise control after a few minutes and stumbling. One thing that I like about it is the ability to adjust the speed down. I set it with the pedal, then can fine tune the speed down from wherever it was set, right down to .1 mph at 2400 rpm. That was pretty cool.
I also liked the brake assisted turning. The Kubota has the same capability, at least theoretically, but the brake pedals are on the same side as the hydro pedals. It was really cumbersome for me to try to maintain forward motion while using the brake to assist in the turning.
So . . . now I'm back to struggling with this decision. The Deere dealer is a little closer, and I get along with them a little better. I think I'm leaning a bit back towards Green today. If Orange had been open past noon on Saturday that might have been different, but I didn't get to play with their tractor today 'cause I went there after Deere. And maybe that's one more factor I ought to consider. If I need a part on a Saturday afternoon I can get a Green one, but not an Orange.
I think that if I could get the 4720 with a loader for about 15% below retail, that's the way I'd go. My dealer's only offering about 6% off retail on the tractor, 9% on the loader.
