I've been shopping all the online sites for tractors for about a year and a half and I've noticed a number of very suspicious ads on some sites. The generally show a very desirable tractor at a unusual low price but there is no location, name or phone, just an email. I tried contacting the "seller" and usually get a response that they want my email address or something. I just reply that I want a location so I can come look then never hear back. Not sure what their scam is because I don't pursue it any further. I expect they would want payment or a large deposit. Be careful folks lots of con artists online.

Yes, Craig's List is infamous for incredible deals that often have the contact information listed something like this: Four3one seven8niner10 six which might be to avoid automatic system checks. Those adds usually disappear fairly quickly when someone catches them. If it looks too good to be true...

The phone number spelled out is a way to keep spambots from getting your phone number and adding to their telemarketers list. The ones to be worried about are the ads with no phone number and only an email. When they reply to your email and start fishing for more info, its time to move along.

I have seen several of those on Craigslist and usually flag them when I see.

Adds look like this 2010 kUBotO LOadEr tRactor Model ... 1800 howrs cAB Ac HeAt, $ 9875. phone 812-456-xxxx.

They appear something like that, with upper and lower case mixed together and sometimes poor grammar. I have seen phone numbers but when you text them they will tell you to e-mail some account for info. Its just BS!!

These scams always have the asking price around half of the legitimate price. They sometimes purposely put in bad grammar and spelling, just to weed out buyers that are skeptical. Basically they are looking for greedy, gullible buyers and don't want to waste time with others. We recently had a bunch of car ads on our CraigsList. They were 5 year old cars, trucks and SUVs, nice pictures, each one with an asking price of $2000.

Some of these are only building e-mail and phone lists. However, the usual scam here is that the vehicle is remote and you just need to make a down payment on the shipping charge, then pay the rest when it arrives. Of course, it will not arrive since it doesn't exist.

If you have been shopping for a year and a half chances are you really do not have a need for a tractor.

Or maybe he needs his money to go a long ways. I shopped about that long trying to get a 40 HP Kubota for $15K, finally settled for a 50 HP Kubota for $12K.
