This is my second post so in case I didn't say it before....Hello everyone!!

I'm needing advice and all of you expert enthusiasts may get me there..... I just purchased a house with about 3/4 acre of lawn to mow and about a 75 yard driveway with about an acre of medium growth woods/muddy too in the snowband off Lake Erie NYS. My desire is to have a multi useful piece of equipment to mow and snow. Preferably diesel and preferably something with FEL and 3pt snowblower too. Mower can be 3pt or MMM but I would like 60".

So that is my situation. What are your thoughts on these two tractors?

Allis Chalmers 2WD 5015 or Yanmar YM186D

OPTION1:

I was wanting opinions on buying a tractor. I have a 2WD Allis Chalmers 5015 with turfs locally with no attachments and a three point hitch that won't raise weight... he said it failed three days ago. The hour meter reads 160 and that's a 4 digit hour meter. Tractor in good shape and he wants $2600 but will negotiate due to the faulty 3 point hitch. This has a shorter wheelbase and it's a pretty cool little tractor. On this I would probably get a 60" 3pt finish mower and add a 3pt snowblower.

OPTION 2:

I also know of a 750ish hour Yanmar YM186D with a woods 60" belly mower and a cobbled on front plow with a wide rear turf tire kit/chains. In good condition supposedly but the hydraulic rams have some rust I guess and it leaks some hydraulic oil. He wants $4900 before negotiation on that one. And it's kind of a drive to get to. But I really fell in love with the size of this little tractor. Funny is as I have never seen it in person but only pictures. LOL This is a heavier tractor of the two...

Yes... neither has a FEL. The only stuff I see with a FEL is wicked expensive and I'm just not willing to lay down $10-12K. I can't justify it so probably better off buying one of those 3pt loader buckets for my various tasks.

All other things being about the same, buy the YM186D. It is a heck of a lot more tractor. It was actually built for small farming and parts are readily available. The three cylinder diesel and the transmission and the FWD are all masterpieces. There are active owners groups for that tractor - for all the US Yanmars. That is a major advantage. The original owners manuals and shop manuals are top quality as was the construction of the tractor itselg. Either put new seals in the homebuilt hydraulic cylinders and lines or just replace the lot. I can find the original manufacturer of the AC if you are interested via some old literature of the time. If you want to see an original sales brochure for the YM186D let me know.

Let's say I didn't go with the 186D. If I go with the physically smaller 5015... then what attachments will fit? I see it has the one speed PTO(540?) and not sure it's a standard size 3pt hitch. Does it require special 3pt mower attachments such as 5ft pull behind mower and snowblower?

I am leaning towards the 5015 cause I think I can get a great deal on it and its just 10 miles away. The 186D is around 200 miles away and I would have to borrow a larger trailer than mine to go get it. It would be a project and even if I do that I still don't have the FEL I was wanting without spending quite a bit more to do so and so really it would just function as a large lawnmower with a 3pt scoop bucket attachement which might serve my purposes fine but I would think I could get the same 3pt scoop for the 5015 too and that one is right here and I assume cheaper. On the local 5015, the 3pt hitch isn't functioning properly. He was originally asking $2600 but maybe I could get it for $1800 or so with the faulty 3pt.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you've already made up your mind! But before you buy that local AC, check with some dealers to see what it might cost to fix the 3pth...

There are actually 4 versions of the AC, the 5015 AC, Simplicity 9518, (i own one:D), Massey Ferguson 1010, and Hinomoto C174. These are all the same tractors but Massey Ferguson has the best parts availability. The thing about the 5015 is...
1. it is 2wd
2. 3 point doesnt work
3. operator station is more cramped than the Yanmar (I know since I have both of them)
4. the 5015 does not have a fuel guage, just a dummy light
The Yanmar is really a good tractor and the 4wd is a definate plus. I cant even back my Yanmar on the trailer in 2wd unless i used high gear which is very dangerous. I understand that the fact that it is close definatly makes you want it but if you really plan on working efectively in the snow and wet or muddy ground, you will want the yanmar? Do either of these tractors have ROPS (roll bars)? I am very into safty on my tractors and luckly my yanmar has factory ROPS and i was able to add ROPS to my simplicity. IMO, try the Yanmar out, it is more roomy, has 4wd, and has more weight = more traction in the snow. This is coming from someone who has both tractors.
The Yanmar has...
1. 4wd
2. working 3 point
3. more roomy operator station
4. fuel guage
I have to say though, what ever you do, dont get both, the two different H pattern shifters are definatly confusing!:D
And, whichever tractor you choose, post pics!

I do want that 186D. But would like it with the FEL. And for less $ than ask price.

I don't think I can get a great deal on the 186D cause that guy is smart and he knows what it's worth. In fact he might even think its worth more than it is fyi. And if I go about FEL'ing it I would be into another $2600. So I could be looking at $4900 his asking price and $2600= $5400 which is still reasonable for a good compact tractor if you compare modern Kubota type things. But then you are getting new tractors with a Kubota for your money and warranty too. fwiw

I'm not too worried about the 5015 3 pt hitch malfunction. He said it just started malfunctioning and I think I can probably fix it without issue. The hour meter says like 160 hours.... Really. So how mussed up could it be? I know, I know... don't go there. LOL And the property is mostly flat so the 2wd isn't/shouldn't be too much an issue me thinks. Maybe shouldn't be yes I would like the 4wd you know this.... Anyways. Assuming I can fix the 3pt hitch hydraulics reasonably, then what attachments can I use with the 5015? It has a 540 speed PTO I guess and I think a "0" grade 3pt hitch. So I think that takes unusual pull behind mowers and blowers and such instead of the regular standard "1" grade hitch attachments? Right/wrong??? Will these types of attachments be harder to find and more expensive? Making purchase of the 186D even though more $ more wiser?

To add fuel to fire.... I can get something or many offerings like Case 446 with 48 inch MMM deck and 48 inch snowblower for $1000 or less which would perfectly well serve my needs but has the Onan motor and likely issues over the long haul.

Yes I'm in a bit of a quandary as I continue to push mow this lawn which is really not actually a problem so far. My buddy says just buy a cheap used rider mower and a walk behind 12horse or so snowblower. Which is what he does and no problems. He's in the snowbelt off the end of Lake Ontario. 200+ inches a year average in his driveway. Hmmmm

I have this fascination with 3 cylinder diesels and 4wd's I can't get out of my head and maybe its not rational...........

My 9518 has a catagory 1 3 point hitch so the 5015 should be able to hook up to category 1 implements just fine. If you get a lot of implements in the future, I recommend a quick hitch. I have 12 implements for my tractors so the quick hitch was a must since i am constantly changing implements back and forth.

Quick hitch sounds like a must do item. GF wants a ZTR mower. I continue to justify this search for diesel tractors on basis that multiple attachments including home generator can be hooked and run on the diesel 3pt.

I just looked at the 5015 yesterday and it runs good. Seems to have a short turning radius but I could not measure as the owner gave me limited time on the machine. If you were to mow with one of these... obviously you would be better equipped with the belly mower. Failing that and the obvious drawbacks including loss of ground clearance and difficulty removing/installing MMM mower.... Which of these two YM186D/5015 would have the tighter turning radius? Does anyone have the figures on the turning radius's of these two? Tractor Data does not list the info unfortunately. Seems to me the 3PT pull behind mower would be the ticket so you could drop it and throw on the 3PT scoop say or the 3 PT snowblower etc.... Of course you then lose maneuverability with the mowing....

Hmmmm. Thoughts?

If my 9518 ran i could measure the radius but my 169D is similar to the 186D so i can measure that. I think the 9518 has a better turning radius since it turns sharper than the Yanmar.
