Thanks for all of the input (and support). Last night I found the time to go out and work on it for a little while. Got it to slide right together. Once I cleaned out any burrs, I lined up the splines and made sure the sections were straight up and down. A couple of light taps with a small piece of lumber and the pieces slid right back together. (Then I "had" to mow the lawn to try it out again.)
