I am recovering from the 5th surgery on my knee in 4 yrs and am told its about as good as it gets.
The problem I have is trying to come up with a way to do the trimming or weed eating without having to do a lot of walking.
I was wondering if anybody here has ever seen or built something like this?

I was thinking maybe use a highspeed hydro motor and maybe making it telescope out from the 3pt.

just wondering if anybody has seen anything like this while I enjoy building and fabricating things I hate to reinvent the wheel if it works

Hello
I saw a rig that someone built to do fence rows.
I will do some checking and if I find it I will post the link.
It may give you some ideas.

Years ago I ran across one, it was offset about 3 ft had a hyd motor and used old cut up V belt instead of string. It was on RT 7 NY VT line.

There is an FEL mounted hydraulically powered sickle mower called the Samuri I believe. I cannot recall who makes it but the idea is simple enough. I'd imagine you could also just rig a weedwacker to one side of your bucket and drive down a hedgerow. Another possibility is the wheeled weedwacker that DR sells. That could also be adapted to mount to the FEL so you could just drive along.

I remember this coming up before here, maybe a search will turn the threads up. A quick google turned these up:

Fence Runner the Grass, Brush and Weed Mower Trimmer

Swisher ATV Postmaster Trimmer — 6.75 HP, Model# PST67522 | Trimmers + Brush Cutters | Northern Tool + Equipment
(There was a thread here some years ago about someone making several mods to this unit that made it work a lot better.)

Looks as if it should only be used by a professional on a professional course

Why do you say that? They look easy to set up and run and cost only about $1300 which is not that bad for a specialized hydraulic tractor implement. Check out the videos on their website. I'd say it would take about half an hour to set up the first time and ten minutes to master the technique.

I am limited on walking - must use a cane so my DR Trimmer/Mower is now useless to me. DR will not accept it as a trade in on a self-propelled model.

I am thinking about how to mount it on the FEL. Need to figure out a remote throttle and a start switch. Also whether to mount on a QA adapter plate for better visibility. I have a 14" "beaver Blade " for it that has a chainsaw edge - should be good for brush too thick for the flail mower to cut.

A small electric actuator might work for the throttle then I could make a electric control cable with connectors at the front of the FEL
