I was at my local Lowe's in southwest Virginia the other day and saw that they now carried box blades, scraper blades and landscape rakes for 3ph. I looked closely at the box blade in particular and found it to look well built. It's seems to be as heavy as my MF box blade.

Does anyone here have any experience with these implements? I can't remember the actual name on them. It seems like it was "Farm"-something. But I called the store and they said it was AgriFab. I'm assuming that AgriFab is the manufacturer and it is rebadged to Lowe's brand.

I wouldn't buy from Lowe's (not saying you shouldn't, that is your choice).

I look to the future, and don't want box stores like Lowes to be the only place in business for such items as attachments. Lowes and stores like them are able to attract buyers and they run the small businesses out of town. Not a healthy way to go for the future of our Country in my opinion.

I agree with you in large part. I do buy at the big box stores sometimes...sometimes there's no alternative. But you know, it's sort of like fast food. I heard it said recently that someone has to be rich to eat like a poor person did 100 years ago. That means, eating fresh foods that are prepared at home. Nowadays, most folks have to work. A couple with children normally have to have 2 incomes to live at the level they prefer. So, that doesn't leave much room for cooking. That's where fast food comes in. The same goes for the big box stores. Unless you have a lot of time to really shop around or don't mind spending a bit more, you have to go to the big box stores to get the best price. That's not to say that it's the best quality (it normally isn't) or that it's the best investment in the long run. But America has become a "for the moment" economy. Most folks aren't interested in buying what will last, but are primarily concerned with fulfilling an immediate need.

Sorry for the rant. :ashamed:

Just for the record, I don't plan on buying any implements from Lowe's. I rather prefer finding something used and of good quality on CraigsList or Ebay.

Farmscape is the name. Have them down here at the Lowes near me. (Crowley, LA)

Looked "adequate" is the best I can say. Not too rinky dink, but certainly not heavy duty.

Well, the box blade looked good. The scraper blade, however, looked rather flimsy. I didn't look closely at the rake.

I have a few agrifab implements (a rear angle blade and a landscape rake). They are light duty. They're a great fit for my needs because my tractor is so small. Most tractor owners will not be happy with them.

Re, buying at big box stores, supporting local vendors etc. I worked hard for my money and spend it where I get the best combination of value and quality. Paying more for something than it's worth just doesn't make sense to me and "loyalty and support" is a two way street.

So far most of my stuff has been from a dealer, but I have bought from Orscheln's, TSC and AgMart.

My experience with Lowes and HD as well is that they carry an item for a while and then drop it. The dropping always seems to occur just about the time I broke it and need a repair part. Unless it is made by a big named manufacturer, I don't buy it from either place.

Agreed.

I only stopped shopping at big box stores after I moved 15 miles away from them. Now that travel figures into the cost equation, I do a lot more shopping at the local small Mom & Pop stores in the small town near where I live.

Now that I've experienced the value of service, I'd probably drive the 15 miles to come back to these small stores if I had to rather than shop at the box stores. On the rare occasions when I do have to shop at the big stores I can barely tolerate the incompetent help, lack of service, and impersonal atmosphere.

The support and service at my local hardware store has saved me a lot of money on multiple occasions whether it's a no-questions refund, an educated suggestion, or good advice on a better way to do something. Loyalty and support is definately a two way street, and value includes more than the price of the item.
