Have not posted the past week due to a screw up...on my part.. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks, PineRidge & Mohammad for the followups and suggestions The tractor I went to check out a couple weeks ago is arriving today, and it looks to be a great tractor day in the NE, sunny & near 50 degrees.

To clarify ( see : 'Gotta tractor' post ) When I first checked this tractor out, I was so impressed with the turing radius I incorrectly stated it had SuperSteer...it does not. OK, OK so my inexperience was showing..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifThanks to TechinNY and PineRidge for raising the question to me regarding whether or not the 16LA loader was compatable with the TC model with supersteer. It made me do a quik return trip and confirm my mix up.

They are correct as all of you TC owners know already that the supersteer option requires a 17LA...

At any rate, I'm looking forward to having a tool here for the work that needs to be done, and wonder why I didn't do this 10 yrs ago....? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

About a month ago I dropped a poison ivy covered 15' stump of an old maple tree, cut it into chunks that are lying down at the fence row now, taunting me...too large to deal with. Until now!
Looks to be job#1 with the fel....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thanks to all for the continuing dialogue and support!

Hope I can offer some of the same in the days ahead!

You're up kind of early today. Wonder why? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It's like Christmas morning all over again, isn't it?

Congrats on the new machine, will be watching for pics.

Just a word of caution starting out with what sounds like some heavy FEL work - keep it low and make sure you have some rear ballast. It is amazing how light in the fanny these tractors can get.

Good luck and stay safe

Top of the morning to you Choreboy! I'll just bet you already have your first cup of coffee and are sitting by the front window waiting for that Big Blue Boomer to arrive.

Try not to get so excited that you forget everything you learned here about safety. And watch out for that poison ivy resin. Getting it on you, your clothes, and your tractor would not be a good move. It makes me itch just thinking about it. Whenever I get it a have to take prenazone to get rid of it. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Glad you are back with us on TBN by the way.

Fire up the camera today and take pictures, please! This is your day... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Brad,

Good advice, I appreciate it. Lemme tell you how things went today, in a nutshell. I chose not to jump into that fel work down near the road until I spend a few hours getting familiar with things. I have about 4-5 large locust tress I dropped about 18 months ago that I've topped and sectioned and wanted to cut them some more and haul 'em to the stack...it was wide open and perfectly flat. Seemed like a better plan than running down to the roadside ... w/ ditch /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ) to make some mistake due to unfamiliarity. So, that's what I did I put about four hours on the machine today just getting the hang of things.....Found out for myself what the big deal is about this 'sticky hydro pedal' I've been reading about /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Sure gets real when the tractor just keeps moving when you attempt to release the treadle....learned about the pucker factor at the same time /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif!!
Fortunately ( thanx, Lord) as I said, I was in a pasture and all I did was push some wood a few feet.Gotta go back to those earlier posts and check out the photos Doc Heb sent in (I think) and see what the fix is on that one.

Bottom line is, I had a great day, the tractor's got a great future here on the hill and I'm tickled with it in spite of some basic service attention it may need.

Gotta admit, had a huge sense of satisfaction tonight as the sun sank slowly in the west and I was backing her into the barn we built for this baby.... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif kinda cold out here on the cot, though!!!

PineRidge, you got it...darn thing didn't arrive 'til 1 p.m. seemed like 4 to me. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gifHad a crook in my neck from looking up the road every 3 minutes /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good reminder about safety, check my post to Brad. I appreciate the cautionary words and plan to take it real slow over the next few weeks, and learn the machine and safe ops.

Ordered manuals on Thur$day, stopped over to the dealer$hip this morning and brought fluids and necessary filters...oh well, hope to keep this baby runnin for years to come, as I believe you put it "protecting oiur investment"

Woods mower ( Cadet 84) seems real nice, a litle surface rust, which I can take care of before the season gets here. FEL's a dream to operate, although I guess nothing beats experience when it comes to knowing when the lip of your bucket is parallel with the ground....any tips other than learn by doin'?

Talk to you all soon!

Choreboy I'm glad you finally got your tractor today. Especially after all the things that have transpired since you first looked at it.

Curious question: Do you by chance remember at what RPM you were running today when your hydro pedal got sticky on you? Were you low on RPMs getting used to the new machine or were you closer to 2600 making it work for you?

So how do you feel about that TC-40D now? Did it make your heart race a bit to run it today? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif You did good....

Keep your posts coming. I am reading your experience with great interest. My brand new TC40DA is scheduled to arrive next week. I am looking forward to my very first tractor and my first tractor ride.

Choreboy,

Yep. There should be an indicator rod on your 16LA, my 12LA has one on the right side. They are useful, especially if you mark it with a perm marker or file a couple of notches. The other thing you can do to get the feel for level is put the loader in float position, then rock the bucket back and forth and watch for it to settle at the lowest point. Those methods will get you level while stationary on flat ground. It's when you start moving that things change /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Soft or hard ground? Do you want to dig in or skim something off the surface? Uphill? Downhill? Trying to level off some bumps? Yep, learn by doin.

The float position while under way and adjusting the attitude of the bucket is the best way I have found for a delicate touch.

Have fun and practice where Mother won't get too upset with the landscaping being all dug up!

Hey Choirboy,

My 16LA has a level rod also, on the right side top, with a notch to indicate level.
