I have a 54" blade that I bought for my JD430 way back in '94 that has been sitting in the back of the shop most of the time since then. It only ever got used a few of times, once for leveling a couple of loads of crushed asphalt for my shop drive, and a couple of times to plow snow on the drives. When pushing snow, unless you kept the blade straight, it would slide the front of the tractor around, making it pretty useless. A year or two ago I had a friend that needed some dirt piles leveled in his back yard, so I took the BX over and got them spread out pretty well, butI think I could have done a better job with a blade, rather than the FEL, so I decided to make a mount for the front of the BX to mount the blade. That came out pretty nice and I mounted it up and tried it out a couple of times and it worked well.
When I took it off the BX, I used a hand cart to wheel it to the back of the shop, but it's pretty heavy and awkward, so I decided to build a cart of some sort to store it on, making it a lot easier to move around.
Finally a few weeks ago I decided to make the cart, so I did some measuring on the blade and came up sith a plan. I cut a couple of 2" square tubing 28" long and a couple of 18" pieces to make a frame for the cart. I also cut a 19" piece of 1 1/2" square tube to support the yoke. I also cut a couple of 3" squares of 1/4" plate to weld in two corners for the blade to rest one. I finally got it welded up and test fit it so I could locate the tube the yoke rests on and weld it in place. Lastly, I welded on two fixed and two swivel casters so it can be rolled around. I can pick the blade with an electric winch I have mounted in the roof trusses and set it down in the cart. I think I'm going to add a couple of eye bolts to the frame so I can put a ratchet strap over it so there's not possibility of it falling over, and once the weather warms up, I'll clean it up and give it a coat of paint, probably JD yellow to match the blade.
It was an easy build, and I should have done it many years ago rather than wrestle the blade around all that time.
