Massey Ferguson 1725mb
Hey guys I have a Massey Ferguson 1725mb that I’m 99% sure I’m upgrading to a Massey 1835m for more lifting power and the like. My big hang up is do I get the woods bh-75 backhoe or would a little Chinese excavator be better. I don’t know which will have more digging and lifting power. I do mostly firewood but come across some regular backhoe stuff on occasion. The 1725 hoe sure beats a shovel but not by a hell of a lot lol.

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, mike

Chinese mini excavators: 1) check how many cylinders you are getting. The single cylinder engines are LOUD
2) The manuel is not always right (single cylinder petrol manuel for a diesel engine) and the translations can be iffy.
3)The grease zerks are a low profile design I have never seen before(require needle point grease tip on the gun), but they are easy to use.
4)Access to the fuel cap is poor and refueling needs 3 hands.
5) Comes with mount points for a thumb
6)Comes with line plumed in for hydraulic thumb or a tilt bucket

There are others with more experience who will chime in later.

good luck

How large of woods and how many stumps / trees? How much reach and digging force do you want/need?
I am somewhat of a proponent of 3rd option of buying an older full size TLB for "similar" money to a new Chinese mini/micro Excavator or an add on backhoe.
Instead of a 2000 lb. mini you can have a 12000+ lb. machine with the hydraulic power and reach that goes with it.
Digging good sized tree stumps out is fairly quick but even then, the backhoe can move a full sized TLB around sometimes. I am sure these minis can do some work and get in a tighter spot, but when push comes to shove. the weight and power can shorten the job time significantly, and in an add on backhoe situation- save repositioning the tractor so many times.
Since the Chinese minis need some mods generally Is it really that much less work than doing some fixing up on an older TLB?

Lots of choices and Best wishes on whatever you decide.

ps. if you do get the Woods BH
make sure and get the subframe model not just a 3 point unit.

The mini will out dig the add on hoe on a tractor. It will not move from place to place as quickly as the tractor.

I bought and installed a 3 pt backhoe for my GC2300 several years back. It was of some use but having to mount it and remove it after anytime I needed to use it was a pain. It also was hard to dig trench since the operation of having to move the tractor after each small amount of digging was much more involved than a excavator has. My new Baby ex is much more versatile of a digger.

Other things about the Chinese Baby excavators is covered more thoroughly in the Excavator Forum.

I dont know much about chinese excavators but if your talking a mini. Then it will be better than any backhoe attachment on ur tractor. I have 8 acres and burn a lot of wood. I use my 1705 for all my wood cutting tasks. I rent a mini excavator once every 2 years bc its easier to cut up trees that are a bit to heavy for my tractor. Id say just rent a decent sized mini once every few years. You will be money ahead. I always have other work for it as well. Backhoes on little tractors just dont make sense. Id rent or just buy an old one for 15 to20k
