toy tractor 1/2 scale 8N

Here's the tractor mentioned in the Daddy /backhoe thread. I made this one from a 24 volt handicap scooter 24volt- a great sophisticated powertain for ride-on toys. Front end and steering are modified riding lawn mower and the bodywork is vacuumformed plastic over homemade wooden molds. The whole thing took about 6 months spare time to develop and build. The molds took most of that time. The boy likes it but I'm having as much fun making things as he is!

My first impression was "this boy has a ton of talent." But then after a closer inspection I decided it was not so much talent as him having fun. And he's having as much fun as anyone I know.

Think about it. What can be more fun than taking common things available to anyone and making them into a working tractor for your kid?

I'll tell you what can be more fun than that.

That's doing it better and cooler than anyone else.

He's definately having more fun than anyone within twenty six thousand miles.

Thanks for the compliments! As for building it, its mostly a recycling project and I try never to throw things out. It started with finding an old twowheel tractor (rototiller thingy) at a junkyard. The 12" tractor tires just looked ideal for a kids toy. Gas engines just seemed too much for a three yr old. Used handicap scooters are cheap or free- this one was saved from a hospital dumpster.
The best thing is the boy wants to help out whenever I'm working. He'll be grown up before he realises that he's been working since before he could remember! Hopefully the farm will be in his blood.
