New Holland TC55DA
New TC55 , which has CAT II on the lift arms of the 3PH, but the Draft Control area only excepts CAT I diameter Top Link Pin , and Dealer had a CAT I link with the Tractor. The Factory Top Link pin with the Tractor is Approx 8" long, with 4" being CAT I, and the other 4" CAT II.

I would think CAT II on the Lift arms , it should except CAT II pins.

Any other 48/55 owners, response is welcome.

I'm with you. You would think that they would also be cat. 2. But, I have seen one or two smaller cat. 2 tractors that were like yours. The only reason that I could come up with for it was that they didn't want to make another part on the tractor end. That way they could use the same part for smaller tractors. Another thought was that maybe the lift arms are shorter than true cat. 2. If they are then the manufacture could use a cat 1 third arm with a cat 2 end on the implement end of the arm. That way the barrel would be the right length. I don't know any of this for sure, but it makes since.

This does not answer your question, but if you have a Cat II toplink, you can put a bushing in it where it attaches to the tractor and use a Cat I pin. That's what I used to do when I had a Cat II hydraulic toplink on my Cat 1 TC45D.

I would think that if I am pulling a 2 Bottom Plow . I would want a CAT II toplink with the Bushing up top. Since there is a lot of force pulling , or actually pushing on the top link.

I'm with Jinman.. get a cat2 toplink, and a cat 1 pin, and the 1-2 bushing. Should be fine.

The problem I've had trying to do that is that the width of the Cat 2 top link is too big to fit in the some places. I picked up a Tisco top link at a local dealer that has a Cat I screw in on one end and a Cat 2 on the other. Works great.

That sure saves the grinding I had to do to get mine to fit. I've never understood why the lower link balls don't have any "ears" on each side, but the toplink does. There's probably a perfectly logical reason, but I've never found it.

The lower link balls don't have the protruding ears because if they did, you would find yourself in situations where they could not be lined up to go over the pins. The top link can have ears because if the situation arose where the tilt of the ball was not sufficient to line up, the end could be rotated to gain more angle. Since the lower lift arms do not rotate, the range of movement limitation if the balls had ears could create a problem.

Also, there are a few implements that require the lift arms to be inserted between two vertical steel plates, and a pin inserted through the hole. If the balls had ears, you would face the issue of possible having to grind down to fit, so it just makes more sense leave the ears off.

No doubt there is a lot of force and pushing is correct, however IMHO I would not be concerned about a 2 bottom and Cat I linkage bar. Many millions of acres have been broken with a Cat I hitch on 2 or 3 bottoms, can't recall seeing a Cat II on these sizes. 4's were available in Cat I or II.

Should not be a problem.
