Kubota L48
Hello,
I am looking at toothbars and piranha seems to be in favor on most forums but for my needs I thinks the traditional type might suit be best as I will be digging in hard clay, rocks and some roots. I'm not looking to skim the surface but as I understand the pirahna can be used to backdrag while the others will leave tooth ruts.

? Does anyone have the "Titan" toothbar and do the bolt on cutting edge heads interfere with installation? I have a Kubota L48 w/rounded top back bucket and bolted cutting edge plate.

Here's a link to the toothbar I'm considering:

Thanks in advance for reply's.

I have a Kubota B 2320 with a Piranha tooth bar. It has improved the performance of my bucket and I am very pleased with the quality of construction. That being said I live in the Gulf Coast of Texas and we have a clay soil here we call Black Gumbo. It is very slippery when wet and swallows up most things that try to travel on it wet it sticks to the grooves in the tires and turns them into slicks. When dry it is as hard as concrete and resists all penetration. Maybe if I had a larger heavier tractor with a more powerful FEL I could be more efficient digging this clay but my Lightweight B2320 struggles with it and needs some fineness and patience. I have some hills of this Gumbo that have sat for over 6 years they were the excess of a groundsouce heat pump project involving about a mile of 6 ft deep trenches. What was left over stayed in these hills. My old 1958 Ford 851 was no help no FEL. I got the B2320 and have been working on it for a bit. The Piranha toothbar really helped the untoothed bucket wouldn't touch it. However I think a toothbar that had longer more narrow teeth might penetrate the compacted clay better. But I am satisfied enough that I wont replace it.

I like my pirahna tooth bar , works great . But when I have to do a hard digging , I bring my grade box and use the ripper teeth to get things loosened up .

Here is where I bought my toothbar:

Very well built and do not have to drill any holes in your bucket. I got the 46 1/2" for my 4 foot bucket.

I drop the teeth on my box blade as well but the angle on the pile of clay make it difficult to dig in. Even when I use it on more level ground it challenges the power and traction of my B 2330, standing on the diff lock helps as does extra weight either in FEL or stacked on Boxblade. Extra weight in tires would just get me stuck more often patience seems to be the best answer.

Mine is a WR Long not Titan but they attach similarly. You are right about a toothbar for digging in rocky hard ground. I can back drag to smooth using the heal of my bucket w/o leaving teeth marks. And for smoothing hard bumpy surfaces or any surface the teeth really help. They are like scarifiers and the cutting edge spreads and smoothes.

A skidsteer is a tough and powerful machine and I suspect a pirahna bar might on the light duty side.
I'd suggest a real tooth bar is your best option.

If you back drag a lot then I'd simply add an additional wear bar on the heel of your bucket, that or you would need to remove the toot bar which might prove not all that practical.

Note that on the bolted ear bars that bolt does not work and only serves to prevent the bar from slipping off, meaning even a cotter pin method of keeping a pin there would work in theory.

The Piranha is definitely tough enough for a skid steer. We have lots of 'em out there on skid steers as well as everything up to and including wheel loaders with 9 1/2 foot wide buckets. Unlike most others, we can say no one has broken one yet. Proposing that a conventional bar digs better is pretty much speculation unless the writer has significant experience with both. I've tried to quantify the straight digging ability of both and have not been able to establish that one digs better than the other. I will concede that I don't have every kind of dirt in the world to work with so there might be instances where one or the other could have an advantage. The major advantage of the Piranha is its versatility. Most owners find that they leave it on all of the time and use it for far more projects than they expected.
Cheers!

I have had both. A piranha on my M59 and regular teeth on my skid steer bucket. Both machines had SS style quick connects and I could useeither bucket on both machines. In our dirt I couldn't tell much difference between the two. If you have other applications where the piranha will excel at then get one if you are just moving dirt get whichever is cheaper as they will both work about the same. Don't get me wrong the piranha is very versatile and does many things regular teeth can't but if you are just moving dirt they are about equivalent and regular teeth are usually cheaper.
