Might be a dumb question........is it possible for a tooth bar to be to heavy for a bucket? I see a lot of tooth bars on this site and and they don't seem as stout as the one I have. I'm not being negative, I'm just wondering if to heavy of a tooth bar for a "light duty" bucket can cause premature wear and tear on something. I have a 60'' bucket and this tooth bar must weighs well over 100 pounds. The bar is 1/2 inch thick and 6 inches wide. The teeth are 6 inches and are replaceable. Each tooth is attached to its own solid steel block that is welded to the bar. Most ones I see are welded directly to the bar.

Any input?

The only issue this should cause is reducing the amount of material your loader will lift. Heavy duty toothbar should in theory protect the bucket lip from bending.

It may / will cause more wear on pivot pins, front axle bearings etc. Vs an empty untoothed bucket. Depending on the size of tractor and loader this is probly a very minor issue.

I think some of the fabricators try to keep them under 70 pounds in consideration of freight charges. I don't want to undermine what may be an otherwise good product, but I stayed away from these "light ones" for just that reason. I didn't feel a 65 pound toothbar would be stout enough for my usage. The five footer I ended up getting, shipped at ~130 pounds (including crate). That's right under the UPS 140 pound limit. It was a little heavy for me to install - and I installed reinforcement plates before drilling the attachment holes - but the FEL itself hardly even knows it's there.

But contrary to the previous poster, my TB has actually increased the amount of what I can carry. Not in terms of weight of course, but in terms of holding bigger/bulkier items in the bucket that - without the teeth - would otherwise simply fall out.

Mine is like yours. I would guess it weighs 125-140 lbs and 68". Mine is from a skid steer. Many that I see for CUTs are lighter in build but still probably just fine for a CUT.

Thanks, nice looking tooth bar. Even if it does weigh a little more, it look robust and strong enough to last a very long time, and aid you in digging/scrapping. About the only disadvantage with the tooth bar, is back dragging. You probably use the back of the bucket for that, and I would like to suggest adding a 1/2 in x 2 in bar across the back bottom just for that purpose, to prevent wearing out the bottom edge,.

Some chain hooks could also help you do certain things.
