OK i have almost worked out a deal on a new L3130 with FEL, and a woods 72" rear discharge finish mower. But I have a question, do I need a tooth bar? The dealer said that he has never sold one, that he always tells people to use there landscaping box with the teeth all the way down. and then turn around and load it up.

What i have is where I had my pond cleaned out about 3 years ago. They piled all the sludge and muck up in a big (big) pile and left it. I need to move it to use for filler and so forth.

the tooth bar is only 305.00, but if i dont need it that is wasted. I have a heavy 6' box now

So please help me. But you know this sounds silly to ask about 300.00 when i just spent 20000.00. and it may not matter because the wife may kill me. Does anyone know how good the seat on L3130 sleeps? LOL

Thanks for all the imput.

If that pile of muck is soft or loose material, you don't need a toothbar, but if you ever intend to use the FEL for digging into any hard packed material (and sooner or later you will), then a toothbar is a very worthwhile attachment.

Bird pretty much answered your question . I got the toothbar and find it to be VERY useful in hard packed dirt . They are also useful for moving / raking brush .
As far as sleeping accomodations on the 3130 . I was fortunate not to have to test it .
I let the wife drive it to do a few things . Now , I believe she likes it better Than I do . Or so it would seem . This weekend We were going to split a load of wood . I was getting the splitter ready when I heard the tractor fire up . all she said was "well hook up the splitter " . John

As I'm sure the boxblade scarifers to loosen up the soil and then pick up with the loader works, I see that as two steps where with the toothbar it is one.

I did last about 6 months or so before I finally built a toothbar. Digging with is soooooo much better than without!!!! Of course I don't have a boxblade to compare (probably next purchase though).

Two bolts it's off and of course mine being 48" it isn't too large to handle.

It does add another thing to store when not using though.

Like everything I guess it has it +/- sides.

Personally if your going to dig much I would buy it with the unit now.

You don't NEED a toothbar, but once you have one, you'll never NOT NEED it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

fluffyone,

Try as I might, I can't remember anyone saying they regretted buying a toothbar!

Now like everythings else...nothing is 100%...

Do a search on toothbar and you find a lot of threads. Read some of them and you will get a feeling for how most toothbar owners feel...most love them.

Mine goes on in spring and comes off in late fall. I could not live without it. Don't need it for snow...probably could leave it on but get into the habit of taking it off for winter... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I've got a toothbar and a boxblade, and both are great tools and both do different things. Sure you could scarify the soil and then turn around and pick it up with the FEL, but it takes longer. Not to mention that the toothbar has a much greater reach up and down compared to the boxblade. You can use it as a rake, for lifting brush, . . . well, I'll stop here. You get the idea. It's a keeper.

It's kind of interesting that most folks on this board have had the same experience you are having with your local dealer. They seem reluctant to sell tooth bars. I don't know why that is, but it might have something to do with profit margin.

A 3130 with a toothbar is a pretty formidable dirt mover.

Well you guys have sold me. It sounds like I need one. It just amazes me that this dealer, and he is a good size dealer) has never sold one. Once again thanks for all the great advice. And it feels great to have least made up my mind about color, size, now what about other options.???? LOL

Thanks

i will just reinforce what the other members have stated. for $300 the toothbar is quite a handy thing to have, great for loosening hard packed dirt, clearing brush, etc. 2 bolts on and off . check CARVERS for price and availability,
