Hi All,

First post and prospective 5610 buyer. I am doing my due diligence before purchasing for recreational/personal use around the house. I searched the forum, but did not really find an answer.

Do the Toolcat's have dedicated window defroster vents or just operator/passenger vents that are used to warm the cab?

Thanks!

They do not have dedicated defroster vents, but I find I have no fogging problem if I run the air while heating in very cold weather. If I don’t run the air, the windows will fog until the temperature stabilizes the cab and windows, which is usually when I am almost done plowing or blowing. The Toolcat manual actually recommends this process.

WOW, that really surprises me. Good old BUS DRIVER FAN should fix that, no?

That is the case with cars and trucks too. When you run the defroster, the A/C also runs to dry the air. It even recommends in the manual to run the a/c once in a while, even in winter.

There are vents for the windshield and front of the side window. If fogging is occurring, I crack the rear/side window and that normally takes care of it. The heater is very good so I'm not getting cold. The rear window is the one that fogs first for me.

That is correct. There are heater vents that direct some of the heat towards the windshield and side windows, but there is no defrost setting on the heater control to direct most of the air flow towards the windows. So, equal air flows through all the vents. The ToolCat does have a great heater. I always have to take off my jacket and gloves while plowing.

I'd like to meet the person that runs their toolcat on full hot and high fan...I never go past the 2nd fan speed cause it gets so toasty! But yes if you turn off the fan in the cold the windows will fog, so I typically turn the temp knob somewhere in the middle but keep the fan on 1 or 2 speed to prevent windows fogging.

As other's mentioned, the heater is capable of keeping you plenty warm. There are vents on top of dash in the center that can be directed to blow up across the windshield both directions. On the dash there are vents on each end of the dash that can be directed at the side windows and there are vents under the steering column and lower center dash area. They are all the same fan so if you want to direct more airflow to one area you have to close the vents you want less. I usually run my fan on high in the winter and adjust the temp setting to the comfort I want. Even today -15 out and I was in a t-shirt and had the temp at around 3/8th of the dial (under half for sure) and it was still plenty warm. If the wind is blowing the snow from the blower back at the windshield sometimes I crank the heat all the way up to melt it faster but it will get so hot in the cab I have to open the side window or it literally is like a sauna.
