Just did a search on attaching tool boxes, got some good write ups. I would like to see pictures of how you folks have mounted an external tool box, mainly on a cab tractor. Thanks - Jim

Took a slightly different approach. Having trouble finding an acceptable place to mount a box outside of the cab, I used a heavy duty nylon tool bag. It stuffs nicely under the left side of the seat.

A little off topic - When I built the cab I cut a big piece of cow mat to form a "floor" that runs from the sheet metal under the front of the seat to the back wall of the cab.

The sides of the cab run as wide as the outside of the fenders and it gives a comfortable amount of extra floor space for my 13W boots. Same cow mat material fills in the real floor area to block off the holes & openings. One picture shows the rubber lifted so you can see the trapezoid-shaped additional floor.

I mounted the box on the rear of my new tractor , works out real nice. If I want to , I can open the rear window and get to the box without getting out of the cab if need be. But mostly just access it from outside.

Think I've posted this before?.... I put mine on the FEL frame between the motor cowling and the fore-aft framework. Made a simple tray to hold the tool-box with a slot mounted on the bottom. It simply wedges onto the flat bar and comes right off with a yank. No mechanical attachment at all, just friction and gravity. (Can't seem to get images to load right now)

I have the same tractor you do. I don't know if you found my thread so I put the pictures here too.

You could adapt the same idea to a larger ammo can (my favorite form of tractor tool box: Rugged and water tight) or to a regular tool box. I keep a few commonly used things in the tray behind the seat. Heavier and less-often used stuff stays in the box.

It mounts to unused tapped holes in the loader frame and is mounted on standoffs to provide room for the handle on the mounting pin for the loader so I can pull the pin without taking the toolbox off if I want to dismount the loader.

if you don't have a grill gaurd on the front. there should be either a grill gaurd and/or front weight attachment holes. you could come off of. just make sure FEL(front end loader) still has room to move up and down.

on FEL arms. (without bucket or like attached) there should be a cross memember (pipe / tubing) something that connects the FEL arms together out in front. have seen folks use some hooks across it. or i don't know correct term UUUUUU has slots in it with some foam / rubber and ya hang them on your wall for fishing pools and other hand tools. but attached to the one area on FEL arms. with an extra bunjie strap or 2. to hold some shovels.

duffel bag with extra pockets for cab tractors can be a nice way to toss something into the cab, on the floor some place possibly, or perhaps behind seat if room.

i have had plastic tool box just completely shatter on me. and i have also had cheap very thin metal tool box's just bend out of shape. and will not close correctly.

ammo boxes, seem to be the more favored here on TBN. both with how lid closes, but also the latch.

for regular tool boxes...
some sort of "dog leash clip" put in paddle lock place on box is suggested. to easy to get into something and have top open up or from simple vibration, and have had latches come undo on me. trying to use a small piece of wire to just a paddle lock itself are rather painful to use. short dog leash has a rope already on it, that you can attach some place. and keep the clip easily assessable as ya get one hand loaded with tools / digging around.

would advise staying away from any "frame work" that holds glass as a place to attach a tool box / supports. if the frame work for glass just gets a tiny bit out of shape. your glass will break. and it doesn't take much.

Simple ammo box as a tool box. IIRC, about $10.00.

I am also a fan of the ammo can tool box.

They defiantly make a good tool box and so many different sizes available.
