After putting boomer to bed for the season last november, my shop foreman can be seen in the attachment busily refinishing the mmm while I checked out the battery area, cleaned the terminals on the original battery, installed battery washers, greased the terminals and put boomer into hibernate mode for the winter...............continued

Imagine my horror, when I got back to checking on boomer a couple days ago and found her with corroded battery components dispite my earlier attempt at prevention..........

After soaking the terminals for a couple days, I gave up and cut off the factory ends and soldered new brass heavy duty ends on the original cables, then removed the battery mounting plate with hood latch assy for a clean and repaint. Not wanting to spend the big bux for the deep cycle yellow top group 51 optima, I KNEW I had to find a better way.........I just got a new battery supplier at my shop, so I had them drop off a couple optima red tops in various sizes on my next delivery...........The attachment shows my modification of the original lower plate.........I bent the tab used to back the group 51 battery down flat with tim taylors favorite tool..........The short sledge hammer........see pic for modification

It's in, with clearance...........Now for the cables and hold down hardware................

The job's all done..........Bump in optima case prevents metal bracket from contacting battery posts I installed a piece of flat strap iron under the factory angle iron bracket , as well as a rubber pad tp protect the top of the battery, and to prevent any possible slippage of the hold down assy.............
