It is getting extremely more and more difficult for me to get parts for my 1985 JD 750. These days I am hearing more of "no longer available". I know this is a Yanmar product as is the above mentioned tractors and was wondering if those tractors are also tough to get parts for especially since JD seems to have disaffiliated itself from Yanmar. I personally think that these were some of the best series tractors JD ever put their name to so I'd like to stick to these in the used market. I have an opportunity to buy a 1996 JD870 but I am reluctant to do so if indeed parts are hard to come by for these products as well. Anyone else owning the 70's series JD tractors having a difficult time with getting parts?

Nope. I order ordinary stuff for my 1070 thru several local JD dealers. Get part numbers from the JD website then march in thru the front door. Have not needed anything out of the ordinary, yet. Will need a clutch eventually. Latest things were battery cables, voltage regulator, and 3pt lift arm jack link. Parts came UPS 2day.

In the last 3 years, I never had a problem gettin' parts for my 1994, JD970 even in Alaska. (It didn't need many... 3pt arms was the worst problem I had - my own fault.)

I think that those series of tractor's (70's) we're another line of great tractors from JD and I expect them to be around for another 20 years.

JD seems to have disaffiliated itself from Yanmar.

Note quite true. All of the current 2k series are built by Yanmar. Some parts for the 50 series are NLA. We haven't had any problem with the 70 series yet.

I've never had a problem getting parts for my '78 950. my dealer just doesn't have a manual for it(his records only go back to 1980). luckily I have all the manuals and if he has a question about something i just take him my manual and he orders the correct part. he's always had fuel filters, air filters, etc. in stock though for it.

This gets me thinking a little. The 750 was kind of an oddity in that it was all by itself size wise. Little bit longer than the 650 but not of the same frame size as the 850,950 and 1050. I am now wondering if this has anything to do with parts availability in that parts are not interchangeable as they are for the larger size frames because there were just not enough produced. Nothing current day seems to be sprung from this size tractor except for the 790 which seems totally different. I could be mistaken but the current day 990 seems almost a duplicate of the 950-970 line with bigger industrial tires.

I have a "92" 770 and I have had no problems getting parts......I am also looking at buying an 870. Great tractor for pulling a larger mower! I would not be afraid to buy one and neither should you.

I just ordered a fuel tank for my 1070. The dealer doesn't stock them but it only takes 2 days from the distribution center. There doesn't appear to be any problem with obsolescence.

The problem is pricing. It's insane how much they get away with for JD only parts!!

My son was using my '96 870 when a hitch pin on the TPH lift arm fell out.
The lower arm fell down and he inadvertently backed over it, snapping off the front pin which bolts into the case.

J.D. wanted $98 for a new one! I turned down both ends of the pin to 45 degrees and had it welded. Working fine so far. The only parts I've needed in 12 years have been battery, filters, etc. One fine, tough tractor.

That one is a beauty. It's either reconditioned, wasn't used much and spent its life parked indoors. Great machine and continued good luck with it. They started the 850's with 11.2 rears but the one I'm looking at being an 870 has 12.4's outback so just wondering if this size came from the factory
