TLB 110
I checked the dip stick on the front end of my TLB 110 and I did not see any oil on the dipstick. I am thinking of draining it and replacing. Does anyone know how much is required? The operator's manual does not give amount(that I could find), just fill until on dipstick.
Also wondering about the use of other hyd fluids. The net seems to say that the JD HY Guard (JDM J20C) is nothing special. Any comments before I change the fluid?

ugo4it,

Manual is online from JD.
OMLVU19603_A9

Capacity is 2.4 Gals, or 9 Litres.

On my 2010, the dipstick was marked to use Low-Vis Hy-Gard. Yours may be different.

I found in the online manual from the link Hy GARD and J20C seems to be the same.
From the online manual
"Use oil viscosity based on the expected air temperature range during the period between oil changes.

Standard John Deere J20C HY-GARD Transmission/Hydraulic Oil is recommended. John Deere J20D Low Viscosity HY-GARD Transmission/Hydraulic Oil may also be used.

Other oils may be used if they meet John Deere standard JDM J20C or J20D."

I changed the oil and i don't think I could get 9 liters in, I just got the 4.9liters.
I am going to check the level again on the dip stick, now that I have run it for bit.
Thanks for your input.

ugo4it,

Just asking, did you remove all three drain plugs, center diff, and one on each wheel?

My dipstick was marked to use Low-Vis, not sure why. My transmission was marked the same, even though the manual showed the temp chart you mentioned. I wonder if it has anything to do with the destination of the machine from the factory.

I haven't changed mine, just added. it was 2 quarts low from the factory.

I did remove all three drains and the vents on top. Also when I put all the used oil into a old 5 liter jug it did not fill it.
When I was filling with new oil I could not get 5 liters in, it was full. Maybe a airlock, I will check the level again and see what the stick says now.

Well, Just had to check. :D I know they used a couple of manufacturers for front axles, maybe that makes a difference??

Let us know what happens

I checked the oil level today and it not on the stick. Added more, got it on the stick. I will check it again in a day or so. It is very hard to get oil into the case now. I had to use a small pump for adding oil to boat motors to get any more in. I believe the spec in the manual is most like correct, it is very hard to get the last bit in.

Just curious, was your stick marked regarding oil type?

Thanks for keeping us updated!
