Looking for opinions about the 8 foot titan (1808) and 8 foot woods (MDS8.30) mowers. I have personally run a 7 foot titan (1600 hd) and I thought it was a good mower. It was very quiet and run very smooth but I have no idea about the longevity of them. My dad and brother both have Bush hog and the gear box is so loud on both of them that its not funny and they both bought theirs years apart. I do know that the 7 foot titan had the thickest metal of all the mowers I have ever used and it appeared to be built to last. I noticed that the 8 foot has the same 10 ga metal as the wood has. The biggest difference I have noticed from my research is the difference in gear box HP. The titan has 125 and 100 hp gear boxes where the woods has 100 and 75 hp gear boxes. The cut capacity is 3 inches on the titan and 1.5 on the woods. If you had to Pick on or the other what would you get and why?
Thank you for your input.

I researched pretty hard the 12 batwings and the titan was getting my vote. The only thing is there is not much dealer coverage in south texas for them. I liked there higher hp gear boxes and seemed built heavy.. I ended up buying a 10’ bush hog.. Deal I couldn’t pass up..

I have an 8' Titan 1808. This is my second year running it and I am very well pleased with it. It came from the factory with the outside gear boxes turning in the wrong direction. This caused it to windrow the cuttings to the center of the cut and not cut your tractor tracks out very well. I called the factory and they told me that was impossible to be that way. Any way I fixed the problem myself and it leaves a good cut, no windrows and it cuts the tire tracks out. Looks pike a ZTR cut it. I am now very well pleased with it. You can also improve the cut by installing a set of Kodiak blades that fit a 8' Kodiak mower. These blades has 1" more offset that the Titan blades and allows you to cut 1" lower if you needed to.

The Woods 8.30 is a light to medium duty cutter for pastures. If that's all you cut, it's a great mower. It has a sloped and smooth deck do grass doesn't pile up and water runs off easily. The 8.50 is the heavier duty model.

The Titan is not a smooth deck, so debris will pile up, but the mower is a heavy built medium duty, budget mower that will likely last if you blow it off after use so it doesn't rust.

If you want the best of mowers, look at a Rhino 96.60. Very heavy built, smooth deck. My pull type weighs a whopping 2400 pounds. 20180911_172837.jpeg
