I recently purchased a used toolcat (only 170 hours) but it has the turf tires and they don't suit my useage ( farm work, snow removal). Is there anyone out there with R-4 tires doing mostly yard work who would be interested in trading tires?

I'll keep my R-4 tires -- but I'm sure you'd like a switch from Turf to R-4 with your farm and snow removal uses. Someone else may want to pick up and/or trade for your turfs, but I'll bet most will want to keep their R-4s! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Is your Toolcat an A-series (made prior to mid-2004) or a B-series? Is it 44, 46 or 56hp? Approximately how much acreage do you have on the farm for your Toolcat to move about on? We always like to hear details about how you're using your Toolcat, when you get a chance to post some more!

I have removed the "turf tires" on both my Toolcats and I'm running studded mud and snow truck tires. Better traction, smoother ride, and faster!

It is an "A" series with the 44 hp engine and the rare open cab with no heat or a/c. The dealership used it for a demo but could never sell it. I suppose to a lot of people the a/c is a big deal but growing up on a farm i've always been used to open tractors and skid loaders so I was glad to run into such a bargain. And with only 44 hp I don't need the power drain. We have a 180 acre dairy farm and I also have an engine building business to support my farming habit so the TC will very busy doing everything from snow plowing to hauling big square and round bales, hauling wood, pulling wagons, maintaining driveways, picking rocks, clearing brush and down trees, and when the work is done just joyriding around the neighborhood. I built a sickle bar mower about 8 years ago just like the one another member sent a picture of. It is absolutely fantastic on a skid loader for fence rows. I can't wait to try it on the TC. Something else I'm interested in is a tree shear. Has anybody tried one? Also don't tell the dealer but I may try my old D-100 backhoe. (carefully, of course). I think by the end of summer I'll be able to tell you how good this machine really is!

I do like having the heat this time of year but I suspect the doors will come off for most of the warm season although I will have it closed up when mowing CRP ground.
I have most of the fabrication done on a tree/post puller. It's basically a hydraulic clamp that I will be using to pull thorny honey locust coming up in CRP acres. I will also use it for removing fences. I have seen the shears but for my needs it is better to pull them out by the roots, they grow right back again when I cut them off unless I soak each one with Round-up.

What size/brand/model truck tires are you running? Using stock Toolcat wheels or other?
You mentioned "faster" so I gather you are a bit larger diameter than the nominal 27" stock..... any rubbing interference issues? What pressure have you found to be optimal?

I believe they are Coopers ( I will have to check). They are 235/75/15 on standard rims. They work great in the snow, have not had to use chains in two seasons. There is plenty of clearance if you want chains. The ride is much smoother, and faster. They do not work well in mud.

Thanks Timm9..... I put a set of Cooper Discover tires on the wife's Jeep GC last fall and they have done real well on wet and snowy roads. They are heavily siped which helps quite a bit.
Do you recall what pressure you found best?
I am getting closer to getting a TC early this summer for general construction support, but mainly for snow removal. The Blizard 810 looks like a nice blade with the power wings.

Sorry for the delay. It finally snowed and I have been plowing for the last 3 days (and nights). The tire pressure on my Toolcats with the studded tires is 45 psi. Hope this helps.
