I have a dilemma -- 75% of the time I will be cutting 1.5 acres of Lawn (soft ground so I am thinking Turfs for this application) however the other 25% is snow removal w/ Front blade and the odd FEL work around the house (digging up / removing an old tennis court is on the agenda, some light dirt work, etc.). I am not into putting on chains to the Turfs but since the cost seems somewhat reasonable was considering a set (Bars) for the snow. I assume the Bars will offer better performance than the Turfs under heavy snow? I am not a BX owner yet but getting very close I would appreciate any advice.

I have turfs on my BX, and I am amazed at how well they do. I really expected to have to buy chains as well, but I have moved much snow with them, with both a FEL and back blade as well as filled a box blade with digging into hard clay. Unless your conditions are drastically different from mine (very soft soil perhaps), I think you'll be very happy with the turfs all by themselves...

I went through this winter(lots of snow) with turf tires. I live in an area with lots of hills on a gravel driveway. Other than a very few times where I slipped a little, I had no trouble. It might be nice to have barr tires, but I'd probably forget to remove them before I went over the soggy spring lawn and upset the wife. Besides, I have enough other ways to do that! I'd say to give the turf tires a try before you spend money on something to increase traction...you may not need it.

I've had my BX2200 for a year now so it has seen all 4 seasons in Western PA. It came with the turf tires. So far, I've found that I can do 90% of the work with the turf tires by engaging the rear differential, or if needed the 4wd. The only time I wished I had more traction was in the garden after I dug it up, or when I was trying to dig with the FEL. More traction is needed for these conditions. For that reason, I think a second full set of tires/wheels are in my future. Snow didn't seem to be enough of a reason to spend the money.

I have turf tires on my BX. If you want to minimize turf damage that is the way to go. The turfs do fine for light dirt work, moving mulch ect with the FEL. Put it in 4wd and low range and it digs pretty well. Didn't get much snow here but they worked better than I thought they would on what we got.

i use r4's. for me they are a good compmise between ags and turff. but from what u stated i think the turff's will do all u want. as i have said before, some days u will wish u had ags, some days turffs, nothing is perfect. pick the best for what you want to do MOST of the time.

hey amsbrook,
i have a bx2200 with the bar/ag tires. they work well and bite in great. i have not had much tearing probs at all. i have 1.2 acre that is slopey and hilly. i have 28 hrs on it and am happy with my selection. even when the grass and soil were very damp, no probs. just be mindful and dont cut tight corners.
