Hello,

I have been trying to learn all I can since buying a L3830, but I feel like I have come to a wall on something regarding tire size. My tractor has bald r4 tires on it, and I would really like to replace them with something more aggressive (hills and wet fields where I live).

I have read the threads about not being able to switch from r4 to r1 on the same wheels. Do people only run one size tire on a set of wheels? Is that because of the 4wd ratio? I feel like my 15x24 rear rims could fit 16.9x24 tires, but I guess I dont know...and I dont know if that would mess up the ratio with the front.

Just curios to know what I cannot find online. Trying to avoid spending the dough on new rims.

A hybrid between the r1 and r4 is becoming available and is called the r14.

I realy doubt you have 15" x 24" wheels. The tractor came with 14.9-24 tires on about 10" x 24" wheels. You can go from R1 to R4 and vs versa as long as tire size is same. Fronts on 4wd are 8.3-16 which are most plentiful in R4 and R3. No harm will result because mfgr expect's tires to rotate at different rates to other 3 under normal use. Only thing you give up is weight carrying with loader.

You should check with your local dealer for prices on tires and rims. Kubota has excellent prices on them and they are available through your dealer for about the same price as a tire!

Well, you are right in some ways. Called my local shop and the price of a tire on the rim is cheaper than the cost of a tire alone, but I would be looking at $2000 to swap to r1s. That just seems like a bit much. Maybe r4s and chains are in my future unless I can find some aftermarket rims.

Is that factoring beyond the cost of replacing your bald R4s and buying chains?

Cost of replacing the r4s would be about $1000-1100, it looks like. If I replaced the r4s I wouldnt buy them at the dealer.

So, is that then a difference of $900 to 1K to make the change to R1 at the current condition of the worn out R4s?

I read all the time that R1s are cheaper than R4s (no personal experience though). Are you saying that they wanted $2000 for a new set of R1s on new rims and only $900-1000 to replace the R4s on your old rims?
