Can anyone tell me if the new 2210 is available with R4 tires? I'm deciding between the 2210 and 4010 models and two dealers I've talked to are not sure if R4's are available for the 2210. I think the R4's are the right compromise for finish mowing and loader work. They offer the turfs and ag but not sure about the R4's. Any help with the tire question and the info on the 2210 vs. the 4010 would be helpful. Thanks.

The 4010 is only a 18 hp. The 2210 is 23 hp. I downloaded the operating manual for the 2210 and it only shows the R1 and the R3 tires for it. Unless you are talking about comparing the 4215 with the 2210, the 2210 has got to be a better tractor, yes you will pay more for it. If I remember right there was a post for comparing the different John Deere Tractors.

Thanks for the info Murph. I wonder why they don't offer the R4's.....seems to be a popular tire choice. Actually in my dealer visits I've found that the 4010 is slightly more in cost compared to the 2210 outfitted the same. Deere is currently offering more rebates for the 4010 and the quotes I've gotten put it a few hundred dollars more than the 2210. The biggest differences I see are the HP and the stance(footprint?) of the two machines. Decisions decisions.

I have R4's and I like them alot. I have a place in the back yard that I feed deer. But it means going up a good hill and with snow on it I have really good traction. My tractor has an automatic 4 wheel drive so I am not sure if it goes in or not, but I can climb the hill with no problems. My neighbor has turf on his John Deere and I think he would have trouble climbing the hill I have to.

I am not sure of what you are going to be using the tractor for but make sure you have the right size. If you need the 23 then that has to be your choice. If 18 is ok then go for it. The 2210 with turf and a set of inexpensive chains could be a way to go also. Throw a post out here telling you what you want to all do with this tractor and you will get lots of ideas.

We just built a home on 4 acres, mostly flat with one hillside of decent grade which the 400 ft driveway winds down. Figure to be able to put the loader to use alot initially working on seed grade and landscaping this spring. The drive is gravel so I'm considering a rear blade or boxscraper to work on the washboard effect that happens over time on the hill. I will be mowing nearly 3 acres of the 4. I've been shopping for while now and got to see alot of equipment at the ohio power show a couple weeks ago. Think I have my choices narrowed down. Considered the BX22 for awhile but decided I couldn't justify the money spent on the hoe. Trading in a 2048 Sabre garden tractor. Deere has a pretty good finance plan going right now on compacts....with 2500 down, 1 year no interest, no payment and 6.9% for 60 mo after the 1 year.

I would first look at what you are going to use the tractor for. If it is something that either the 18HP and/or the 23HP could do I would go with the 4010 18HP. As you indicated for a few more dollars you could step up and get a larger stance machine. I have a 4110 HST with 410 FEL and R4's and love it. I to looked at the smaller 2210 (just coming out at the time I bought) and the bx1800/2200 , but stepped up to the larger 4110. You will never say 15 years from now that I purchased to big of a tractor , however you might say that I did not buy one big enough.

Good Luck !!!

FYI the R1 (Ag style bar tread) tire on the 2210 aren't as aggresive as they are on the bigger tires (4010 & up tractors) Don't know if you've gotten a chance to see them in person or not. I'd say they are closer to the R4 on the bigger tractors than the R1.

Something else to keep in mind, several of the BX2200 owners (same size tires as 2210) have gotten complete tire & wheel sets for <$300. That wouldn't even furnish rear tires on the 4010 / 4100. It would be pretty affordable to start with the Bar tires & switch to the turf later (once your lawn is established) if you felt the need to.

The R4's are popular (I've got them too) because they are a comprimise between the R1 & R3. They work OK under most conditions, but for low traction situations the R1 (bar) are much better and for minimizing damage to the lawn the turfs are much better than the R4s. Some (myslelf included) have had damaged their turf with the R4s. It depends on your soil (sandy vs. clay etc) & how wet it is. If it were affordable (Ie $300 vs. $1,000) I'd have both R1 & R3.

I imagine you have to be real careful in your turns, especially when the grass is a little wet.

Road Apple,

I don't want to tell anyone what brand of tractor to buy. They are all good and is mostly each one's preference. Kind of like buying Ford verses Chevy or vice versa. There was another post in another section I believe where they were comparing the 4110 over the New Holland TC24D. If you have a New Holland dealer check it out. It can't hurt you. Basically you end up with a larger framed tractor and more horsepower. The price was the same for both tractors. Based on what you are going to do to your driveway the extra HP and sturdier tractor might be nice. I have R4's on my TC29D, with a two year old lawn and am very happy with them. Anyway look at some of the other options out there. I think New Holland has the 1 year no payments also.

Road Apple,

Look under the discussion of Buying/Pricing and then find 4110 verses TC24D. You might find some interesting things said there. Also give LAGeorge a call by e-mail now that he has his TC24D and ask him how he likes it. He was set on the John Deere but ended up changing his mind. Go find a dealer that has one in stock and sit on it. Drive it. Again I am not telling you what brand to buy. But look at some other options out there. Also remember, the dealer means a lot.
