Chains TIRE CHAINS

I have a Grand L 3130 and have duo grips V bar chains for the back.
My question is can you put tires on the front?
is it hard on the axles?I was told the front tires are made to spin if they do not spin you will brake an axle.

I run my L4330 w. chains on all fours all winter w. no problem ...issue, which has to do w. winding up the front axle when front(s) and rear(s) have excellent traction (hard surface) ...that's why part-time 4wd vehicles caution against using 4wd on hard surfaces ...interestingly, I had just this problem, in spades, on a 4wd suburban some years back when it came through from the factory with seriously mis-matched front and rear axle ratios ...doesn't say much for QC.

Anyway, no problem w. chains on all fours on normal surfaces you encounter in winter that prompt you to put chains on in the first place. My other reason for chains on all fours is to take advantage of engine braking on steep inclines ...a must, for me.

I run chains on all four corners of my 4150. I do try to keep an implement on the rear when useing the loader. I snapped the front axle driveshaft engagement gear on my 345 DT by digging snow with the bucket with 4 chains and not having enough weight on the rear. Use common sence.

I posted the question from that previous thread. I used to get stuck in the snow and mud even with rear chains. The front chains are incredible. I can go anywhere with my L4400 and R-4 tires. As stated just don't run them on a hardtop surface.

I used my 7510 with front chains only. It was a situation when I had to have something on glare ice or I would had had to leave the tractor in the yard. I have an old set of chains from a car that fit on the front wheels of the tractor. It worked great and I just left the chains on for the winter. Never had a problem only improved traction. If I had to make a tight turn on gravel, bare dirt or hard top road surfaces I just pushed it out of 4wd to make sure I will not cause any problems.

I ran v-bar 2 link chains on my front R4's this winter in addition to the v-bar 4 link chains I had on the rear tires for the past few winters. The difference in traction and steering was improved by 100%. I am never going back to rear tire chains only. I had to reverse the front tires/wheels in order to create enough clearance for the front chains.

I am going to leave the chains on my tires this spring until I have all my firewood logs hauled to my staging area. I will leave the tractor in 2WD and only put it into 4WD when I need it.
