Tips on using flat deck trailer for hauling stuff to the dump?

Any tips on using flat deck for hauling stuff to the dump. I am going to build some small sides, but would be nice if unloading at dump wasn't such a pain. I don't have a dump. I am thinking a few totes that I could tip over the side may be the best... that allows me to group steel, lumber, etc, together so it goes in the right pile. Hauling to the dump is a lot cheaper if you use the correct piles here.

Depends on what you are hauling.
Maybe lay some long tow straps on the deck from right to left (not front to back). Then lay a tarp on top of the straps. Then put all of your stuff you are hauling on top of the tarp. Then tarp/strap everything down as you normally would for the drive.

At the dump, take off your top straps/tarp. Then grab the underlying two straps from,say, the left side over the top and pull the tarp over to the right side, thereby dumping everything that is on the tarp to the right.

Those truck cargo nets are an ideal way to secure the tarp on the load.

For sure placing an old tarp on the trailer bed will quicken clean up.
From there you can upgrade by making or buying a rear tarp roller so you simply crank and roll your load off.
They even sell them as a 'truck bed' unloading kit.

It depends what you're hauling but you can buy used billboard signs for pretty cheap like 80 bucks for a 14x48. its smooth vinyl, so you can drag the load off pretty easy and its much more durable than normal tarps.

I wondered about something like that. I was thinking of bring a stake to pound in, and tie to sheet, then drive ahead to pull it off if it proved too heavy to pull off by hand. But rigging something up with a winch may ne easier.

My friend uses a tarp with straps under it as Seville009 described. The loader operator at the land fill grabs the end of the strap nearest the tongue and pulls the load off by rolling the tarp over for a $20.00 tip.

My solution for wood. Hindsight has me extending the sides back over the axels. The Amish gent I bought wood off this year refuses to take a refund for 3 ricks I got from him. Got it home and split it up, ended up with a cord and a half. Any who, that box is about 122 cubic feet and a cord is 128 or so.
