Tipping transport box for 3pt

Hi, I have always loved getting out into the shop at Christmas time. This year's project is a tipping transport box. I remember the folks around home always having them and I want something similar. Since I had some scrap lying around, this is what I've come up with. Its test fitted to my old Ford 5000, but it is really intended for my Kubota MX5000.

I don't have the latch figured out yet, but I'll think of something...

Its 36" x 60" and is going to have 30" sides and be lined in plywood. I'm also thinking of adding a trailer hitch to the back for pulling a splitter.

If anyone has photos of other ideas to share, I'd love to see them!

Since I had a FEL, I ended up using it more for tools where I can drop/remove the whole platform.

As for a latch, something that will hook the bottom and have a long handle so you can reach it from the seat. Good luck, I'll be watching to see how you finish if off :thumbsup:

I see that you have moved across the country N.S to B.C. As you are planning to put the tip box on larger tractors do you think 30" is high enough to make an efficient load. If you went to 4' high using 3/4" plywood sides you could always put in less but trying to stack over the top means ( 52 pickup , deck of cards kids prank ). On the spring latch look at industrial roll tip bins that are handled by fork lifts. You need to make the spring that pulls the latch closed strong enough to outsmart sneaky branchs that could trip the latch ( 52 pickup **@@).
You could also use hardwood 1"x4" if you run across some hardwood skids. Why beat up good plywood.

Hi Craig, I work in Northern BC, and own a house here, but my little farm is back home in Nova Scotia. I only get about 6 weeks per year there though... until I retire (8 years).

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, too. Looks like an easy, interesting build idea. It'd make my carryall a little more versatile. Hey, blunosr. I think I used to work with one of your cousins, he went by the handle of "brwnoser. :laughing: .

Well, here is the latch mechanism I came up with. Probably more complicated than necessary, but it works well.

The long handle hangs straight down, and will have a rope that I can pull from the tractor seat. Now its down to final welding, clean everything up, paint the frame, then put plywood in. I'm planning to have a chainsaw scabbard on the outside left, and a couple of vertical pvc pipes to hold shovel, rake, etc.

Ok, I finished the metal parts. All that's left is the plywood lining.
