My neighbor noticed my tip-o-meter and asked if there are specs for different model tractors as to what inclines they are safe to operate at. We're thinking that wider wheel base tractors would not tip so readily as a smaller narrower wheelbase tractor. True? Are there such specs available?

BTW my meter has the "sticky ball" problem, evidently only in the hot dry weather though. when I first got it this summer it would stick. now that we've had some rain and it's colder it is working fine. I just came across this on another list and wonder if it might be effective with these meters.

" I use No Touch tire care for anything rubber. It provides ozone protection and an anti-static barrier, which (they claim) repels dust and dirt. It can be used on: trim, bumpers, hoses, etc. Just spray on and it cleans your radiator hoses while lubricating them. "

Anyone tried anything like this? I'd be willing to try but it'll probably be next summer before it sticks again...

ciao for now,
dave

I read in another thread that it was static electricity that was the cause of the sticking ball... one person solved it by spraying with some cold water....

Apparently the ball moving through the tube creates static electricity which cause the ball to bind up. New tiltmeters from RBManufacturing now have a thicker liquid which eliminates the problem. Talk to Rick at www.tiltmeter.com and he can probably help you out.

PS I don't know about others, but I don't like anything greater than 15-17 degrees. And, yes, putting your tires on wide give you more stability, but loading, wheel weights, keeping implements below axle level (especially the loader), using 4WD, cautious speed, etc all combine to make sideways operation on a slope safer.

Hey Mark thanks so much for the link. I'm going to invest in one of these nifty looking gadgets even before I take delivery of my new TC-40D. I have a couple of areas on the back of my farm dam that I have stayed away from with my 25 HP Bison. Maybe the meter will indicate that it isn't so bad of a slope after all.

Hi Dave,
Sorry you had a problem with your tiltmeter sticking.
Please e-mail me your address, and I'll send you a new one
at no charge, and I'll pay the shipping also. Just toss the old
one. All I need is the model#. Does it go to 25 degrees on
each side, or 50 degrees on each side? I have eliminated
the sticking problem. ANYONE having a problem of ANY kind
with one of my meters, just let me know. I'll make it right.
You can e-mail me at: RandBMfgInc@worldnet.att.net
Does not matter if warranty has expired. I'll fix it anyway.
Thanks, Rick /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Attached is a picture of my dual-axis mounted. I pulled the instrument cluster (2 screws - REAL easy), 2-side taped the mounting block on the flattest part I could find, drilled through, and bolted it on.

and that is why I ordered mine after reading the post last week.... There is a link to order from on this site...... Just click on the "Store" in the top right hand corner. Save a couple of $$$$ and also get a free mounting device. Purchasing from the "store" I believe also helps to keep this site going by the seller paying a small commission to the site owner.

what great service! Rick is sending me a replacement meter. It hadn't even entered my mind that this could happen.
