- JD318, Power-Trac PT425 with scuffed-up green paint.
Gentlemen,
I need to replace my trusty JD318. I enjoy it a lot, but it is clear that my needs have exceeded its capabilities. My situation: 2.04 acres of property, approximately 60% extensively landscaped (e.g. requires 7-8 units of bark chips for mulch - about 60 yards, plus another 1.5 units of cedar chips for the kids play area.) About 20 trees to maintain, and the rest is forested. Sitting on the side of a small mountain - has areas of slopes (I really need the 4WD and bar tires - the JD318 can get around, but I need to be very careful, and sometimes I need to ask my wife to work the tractor while I push it out when stuck!), about 9000 SF of fine grass, and loads of bushes, rhodys, azaleas, etc. Has terraces, fruit tree orchard, and vegetable garden. The JD318 has a JohnnyBucket on it, and a 50" MMM with PowerFlo. It's just a bit small for moving all that mulch every year, not to mention moving up into the steeper parts!
I expect 60-70% mowing, and the rest in loader work, moving mulch, trees, etc.
I am looking at a BX1500 with 48" MMM, FEL, and bagger assembly. Does anyone have this setup? The dealer (small one in Hillsboro, OR) is pushing me towards the BX2200, saying the bagger has more power when mowing (i.e. power requirements when bagging, mowing, and moving tractor up a slope) BTW, he doesn't carry the BX1800, but I suppose I could order one. He says the BX1500 will not have enough umph to do it. I'm a bit doubtful, as my JD318 (a 17-year old gas Deere with a PowerFlo bagger) does just fine - and this seems to be a much stouter, more powerful machine with a lot more torque. He says the power available at the PTO (which runs the bagger blower) is not a lot.
So - what do you guys think?
Anyone have the FEL? How does it do? Any troubles?
The 3 cylinder BX2200 seems REALLY smooth, although the BX1500 is not too bad. Anyone regret getting/not getting the BX1500 due to excessive vibration or lack of power?
How about the mower? He is pushing the 60" MMM (claims torsion bars are wonderful - floating deck cuts a lot better) - and thus the BX2000, since the BX1500 can't take the 60". What do you think?
Anyone have the bagger with the BX1500? Does it work OK?
Your opinions are read with great care, and will be used to help in the decision. I like the small size of the BX1500 - I think it will fit in my shed even (that's where the JD318 is now, although I do need to take the MMM off - it won't clear the double-doors.) I must say, being a JD guy, I am VERY impressed with what I saw at the Kubota dealership.
Inquiring minds want to know!
Thanks so much!
