My 2000 era JD-790 has served me well over the years, mostly for mowing duty. It's time to replace the tires and my needs have changed. While I still need to mow 6+ acres, I now have the need to do a lot of dirt moving with my loader.

I'm having a new house built on the property, so I've got lots of ground to grade & finish, but will still need to mow 6+ acres.

Are R4's a good choice? I need more oomph for the loader but don't want to tear up the grass when mowing.....

I'd appreciate specific tire recommendations. Thanks !

R-4 are a good compromise between the turfs and ag timers.. My 2320 has R-4 and the only time you may tear up the yard is on really tight turns

Brand wise I have no recommendations.. You may have to go with what your dealer or tire place can get/carry in your size

I had a 790 with R-4 tires for about 6 years. I now have a 4400 with turfs.
I would strongly advise you to keep the turf tires. For most work, they're better then industrial tires.

Just keep the pressure up in those front tires when doing loader work.

Neighbor of mine has the same era 790 he bought new with a BH. His came with Titan R4's. Runs it on his yard all the time. As long as its not too wet and no sharp turns he doesn't leave any marks. I had the same 15x19.5 Titans on my Mahindra 2615 and ran them on grass all the time too. You just have to be a little more careful turning.

Changing to R-4's would require changing to new rims as well, IIRC. I think Roy has good advice for you.

Hire a bulldozer for the heavy work. The tractor will be ideal for york raking and seeding.

You will notice the R4's will ride rougher than the turfs too.

I have a 2720, used mostly for mowing, which is just about the same weight and hp as your 790 and it also has turf tires. I suggest getting a tooth bar on the loader and a 600 to 800 pound ballast box. That, and a tiller, helped me grade and move soil around my new shed just as you are wanting to do.

mowing 6 ac........turf tires for sure. Much smoother ride. Or maybe change out seat with a better suspension and change to r-4's.
