Hey all,

I've had a tiltmeter sitting around for several months and finally figured out how to securely mount it to my 4300 in a very visible location without drilling any holes. See attached picture.

Here's another view. I used the top screws that hold the dash in place. The mount I made helps make it more visible above the steering wheel without being to obvious. The mount is just a 1.25" x 15" strip of 16ga sheet metal. I got a couple of longer bolts to replace the stock ones. I also used rubber washers under the mount I made to keep it from damaging the plastic dash piece.

Very clean installation. You may want to tilt the face so it is perpendicular to the ground. R&B's installation instructions say that it makes it more accurate, although it's easier to see when tipped back like you have it.

Good idea, and nice installation! I've been in the same situation and will take advantage of your idea. Thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks for the heads up on the mounting. As usual, I haven't read the instructions (yet). I kind of wondered about the angle, but you are right - much easier to see with a slight tilt. I'll try it straight up and see how it works out.

Real nice & clean installation. Very orginal thinking! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif What kind of metal stock did you use?

Hey Chief -

I used a piece of 1.25" x 15" piece of 16ga sheet metal and painted it with some Rustoleum. I may remake the mount out of aluminum if it should ever start to rust. It was just some metal that I had laying around.

BTW, In addition to the tractors, it appears we share the same tastes in trucks. I drive a 2001 QC LWB 4x4 Cummins, though mine is now putting out about 375 HP. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Love that truck!

Nice job! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Do you have to calibrate the tiltmeter after installing it? From your picture, it looks like the meter is showing about a 3 degree tilt. Is this because of the camera angle, is the floor not level, or is it that it hasn't been calibrated yet?

Just wondering! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

swa240z, well there you have it! Great minds think alike /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have been using the built in tilt meter in my butt for a long time and it would be nice to have a gauge that gives you something to compare and keep and eye on. I am leaving my Cummins stock for now. Does all I ask of it and gets 21 - 23 mpg to boot. I may add some fuel, boost, and egt gauges later but for the time being, I put my Briar Hopper fuel pressure tester on the injection pump and test it out. Lift pump is still kicking, min. 6 psi at 2950 rpm in 5th gear pulling my trailer. I just installed the ROPS light brush guard and work light kit which was not bad to install and helps out a bunch at night. I am going to install a rear facing set on the underside of the brush guard for seeing to the rear and hooking up equipment.

I like that installation. Now I know how to mount mine; I just got it yesterday. R&B did a good job making those units. What is the biggest slope you've been on with it and still felt safe?
