Tractor
Kubota L3901DT
Hey Folks,

New tractor owner here. I have 22 acres in Virginia and have maintained things the last 5-6 years with a GT with a Johnny Bucket and a pull behind Trail mower etc. Well some things are just too out of control for the GT anymore and I upgraded to a Kubota L3901 DT with a 60' bushhog and bucket and landscape rake. I have quite a bit of hilly area on the property that makes me a little uneasy on the Kubota that I never worried about on the GT, so I ordered the Tilt Meter from this site. Now I don't know where to install it and was wondering if anyone has used one and if so where did you install it? Thanks!

On side hill operation only go up and down NEVER go across the side hill....

Plenty of videos on youtube about how how to operate tractor on hilly locations...

And all tractors shift center of gravity different so when in danger to rolling over "tilt" will be different to each tractor model and implement combination...

Tilt meter will probably give you false sense of security until you have the first butt puckering experience that actually calibrates your brain and not the tilt meter...

I even did off center lift with FEL on flat ground at dead stop and got one wheel really high off ground.... Takes a few seconds for butt to releases grip on seat....

Watch what you are doing....not at the tilt-o-meter.

How do you know what's too much tilt?

BTW you'll see a lot of videos of guys driving with the bucket high up "for visibility". Don't do that. Keep it low and look past it. I lower my rear implement as much as I can too, especially on side hills.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Personally, I'd mount it above the dash/instrument panel where you can see it 'at a glance'.

Enjoy the site.

Yup, never run around with the FEL up in the air. That's just stupid, and begging for all kinds of trouble. Run with the bucket just high enough off the ground that you don't drag it. And different setups will have different centers of gravity. Not really going to be a hard rule about how much slope is "too much", until you feel the high side start to get loose. Then it may be too late.

With my tractor, with FEL and bucket just off the ground, and brush hog on the 3pt, and on the ground and mowing, I draw the line at a 20 degree side hill slope. That is max, and only on dry ground. But that is my tractor, with cab, filled rear tires, and R4's. Maybe another different setup and 20 degrees would be too much.

On my previous L3410 I mounted the gauge bracket on top of the dash with double sided tape. On my current cab tractor it's directly attached to the metal bar that separates the front windshield from the lower glass panel.

Tilt meters on tractors are pretty useless because conditions can change and there is not a set angle that will roll over a particular tractor at exactly the same degree every time.

Yep, that says it all. You just have to learn the limits and variables and know when to stop.
