I would like to add a tiller to my implement set. I don't think I would use it a great deal, at least a large garden every year. There also about an acre in the back that cound use tilling and reseeding. I have been keeping my eye out for a used 42 to 48" tiller, I think it would be an appropriate size. Here is the issue, Down the road there is an old 60" tiller out beside an old far building. Seems like they are not farming anymore, and that tiller has sat in the same spot for the last 2 or 3 years that I know of. I was thinking of going in take a look and see if they want to sell it. I think a 5' tiller would be to big for my 2210. Any one use a 5'er on a 2210.

If your 2210 3PH can lift a 60" tiller. You could remove tines from either or both ends to allow for the power that a 2210 does not have for a 60" tiller.

You may have to go slow with a 60" tiller on the 2210, but I don't think power will be the problem. You will need an FEL or a lot of weight on the front for ballast, and the 3pt limit is 650-700 pounds. Considering your plans for limited use, if the 2210 can lift it OK, and you have have ballast, it should work.

Fred,

I do have a 210 Loader, and or suitcase weights. My guess would be this tiller would be 500Lbs or less.

Thanks

I have tilled about 15 acres total with my 48 inch tiller on the 2210. Works great! The only time I was a little short on power was when I tilled three acres for a neighbor and he wanted me to go over it a second time at a right angle. I love my set up and would hate to admit the 2210 would not handle a 60 inch tiller, but I do think it would be a real load. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I agree. I have a 52" and it is about all it wants. There are limits, and in my seat of the pants opinion, I am at that. Sometimes it try's to push the tractor. Not enough weight.

<font color="green">johndeere2210 - can you say more about why the second pass at tilling was more of a problem for the tractor than the first? I am thinking about buying a tiller for my 2210 and would like to understand more about what you and the tractor were experiencing in that second pass at a right angle.

The second pass at right angles was my neighbors idea. Personally I would have quit with the first pass. The reason it was pulling so hard was I had already tilled about eight inches deep and on the second pass I was tilling another couple on inches plus the loose dirt from the first pass. The engine had to work a little harder than I like, and I had to go a lot slower to keep engine RPM at PTO speed. If I had known ahead of time that he wanted a double job, I would have only tilled about two to three inches the first time. As far as that goes, when I planted three acres of rye grass at my place, I went four inches deep in one pass and called it good. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Hope that clears things up.

Ron and Steve,

Appreciate your point of view, as much as I spent on this tractor, I don't want to take risks on getting a tiller that will cause problems down the road. For my purposes a 42 or 48" would be perfect. Probably best to just keep looking for the right sized tiller.
