Buying Advice Tiller for CT230

Hello All,

New to forum as a member, but have visited numerous times for guidance. I purchased a CT230 in the spring of 2010 and have also played with an 8N for 7+ years (my first tractor). I'm in the process of looking for a 3pt tiller for the 230 to help with my food plot, and no matter how much I research, I still have questions.

I'm wondering if anyone has anything to offer regarding the Bobcat line of tillers. I currently have general inquiry quotes for a 60" Bobcat tiller at $2000 and a Land Pride RTA1058 at $2125. I will also test the waters with a Kuhn EL 43-150, but fear the price will go up.

Does anyone out there have any experience with the Bobcat tillers?

How do they compare to a Land Pride or Kuhn tiller?

Things I know:
6 tines - Bobcat & optional on the Kuhn
"C" tines (easier cut?) Land Pride & Kuhn. Not sure yet on Bobcat.
Gear Drive - Bobcat & Chain Drive - Land Pride and Kuhn
PTO HP requirement - All three are with the CT230 22HP range.
Size of my food plot - 1.5 acres (some clay, some small rocks, some easy going sandy soil)

I pulled a 60" KK II thru some wet clay last summer (it was a wet summer and my window for geeting things done was narrow). It handled it, but slowly. I know I can get the KK II for about $1400 on sale this weekend, but want to get something more appropriately sized for my "ride". The KK II specs out at 25+ PTO HP but did go thru a well established garden like the hot knife thru butter for me.

Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place for answers, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. There is also an attachments forum under the general forum you might find some info on.

I don't have any input to give you on a Bobcat tiller other than it was priced out of my league and to be honest, I could not tell it was any better built than the County Line tiller I bought from TSC for half the price.

I have only used my tiller for 2 seasons and do not till near what you are tilling but I have no complaints about it.

Personally I would go with the KK or County Line and use what I saved on buying a Bobcat tiller and buy another implement...... maybe a bob blade.

I have nothing against Bobcat implements other than I can't afford them. If you have the extra money to spend then I would say go for it.

I have the Bobcat 60" tiller on my CT230. A great tiller. I till up to 7 acres with it to control weeds. Other times I use my 72" s-tine cultivator. I wouldn't go bigger than 60".

Price...well that is your department. I'm in Canada, so it was more expensive at the time to buy my tiller back in 2009. I paid $2500 incl sales tax.

I went to the Bobcat website and those tillers look like the Sicma made tiller that we sell under the Phoenix and First Choice Brands for a lot less money than $2000. Ken Sweet

I tried to locate the manufacturer behind the Bobcat tiller. My findings where that BC bought a tiller company many many years ago and are making their own.

I just looked at the Sicma website. The blue "Farm-Maxx" line looks very similar. I'll have to compare once my tiller is visible again (buried under snow).

I'm looking to replace my tines as some are starting to wear out. BC wants a fortune for them.

This is why I was hunting for the manufacturer back awhile ago.

Ken, can you price the tines? I have the 60" model. Maybe I'll order one and compare first.

I am pretty sure that those tines are going to be Sicma at $6.95 each and we have them in stock. Ken Sweet

Thanks for the comments so far. I too have been trying to figure out who manufactures the BC tillers in my research. I asked the sales manager at the BC dealer over the phone and he thought it came from Italy, but couldn't remember the name. I offered up Sicma and few other names that I've heard, but nothing "rang a bell".

I think it behooves the salesman to "not remember" that they are probably Sicma, First Choice, Phoenix etc., because the Bobcat brand Name is going to be priced higher on the Italian attachments. Kioti, does the same thing and JD to some extent. Ken Sweet
