I have just had a rear PTO setup installed on my 425, and am wanting to get a 3 point tiller for it. My question is what width of tiller will this machine comfortably pull???

Depends what you want. John deere made a 42 inch hydraulic drive tiller for the back that would either go on a 3 pt or a special lift made for the 425, 445, and 455 tiller and it ran off a pump that connected down under the tractor at the deck 2000 rpm pto. Other than that I don't think deere made a 3 pt pto driven tiller until the x4x5 and x5x5 series came out then it was called a 647 pto tiller. It was 46 to 48 inches width don't remember exactly it may of been 47 hence the name 647. I know woods used to make a tiller that had an option ok n the shafts to fit a 425 rear pto connector but I have never owned a tiller for a 425.
Thay 647 tilled was a big tiller when it was on the x585 I saw it on and the guy had 4 weights on the front and said when you picked the tiller out of the ground at the end of the past the front was still light.

JD made a 42" hydraulic tiller and it had an optional 6" extension to get you to a 48" width. It worked good on garden tractors. But when the ground got tuff, it went back into the shed and the 450 mechanical tiller was put to work. Eventually we gave up on the hydraulic one and everything was tilled with the 450 tiller that I ran behind my 425, my 445, and my 455 for 10 years. It had a 48 inch cut. It worked great but it needed a few 40 pound suitcase weights on the front for ballast, I used 5 of them.

You should be able to run one of the 48" 540pto tillers with a 425. I have a Model 48 2000rpm pto driven 48" tiller on my 332. One of the John Deere model tillers may be best, but any of the other brands can be made to work if they are made to the same dimensions and weight as the John Deere. You will need a weight bar for the front and at least 6 of the 42lb suitcase weights. I run 7-8 on the front of my 332 and John Deere recommended at least 6 suitcase weights for the 430 with the 48 tiller installed.

Thanks guys for the info, I know I can get a tiller at the local Farm Store, but am concerned about getting to big/wide and not having the power to run it. I would like to have a 48 inch, but if I have to go to a lesser width, I guess I would do so reluctantly.

Don't think you will be short of power. Would be wise, IMO, to take advantage of the PTO driven power of the 425.
With hydrostatic, you can adjust your speed to match the performance of the tiller.
