Hadn't heard much about this but apparently we are going to an even lower sulfur gasoline. The current standard is 30ppm and the new standard is 10ppm. Depending on who you ask it'll either cost 1「 or up to 10「. It's hard to tell exactly how much benefit this will be. The pro people are saying that it'll cut 80% of the pollution which sounds kind of optimistic. Has anyone else heard anything about this? If it's almost not extra cost and doesn't pose any sort of threat to engine life then I'm all for it. If it's like ethanol and not well thought out but we'll get stuck with it I would rather know now.

Nothing to be done about it; we have to buy/use what they allow us, unfortunately

To me, that is one of the ironies of diesel being demonized - gasoline has higher sulphur wrt. ULSD.

We are probably well past the point of diminishing returns, but this will likely proceed. I'd expect higher costs. Perhaps most of the damage has already been done (by reductions) ? Sulphur has lubrication properties. When industry has to pay more to take something OUT, then pay more still to put something BACK IN (alternate lubrication), I've lived long enough to expect corners to be cut, esp. on the BACK IN part.

There will always be options.... switch to horses..... though if enough of us do that, I'm sure there will suddenly be some new enviro emergency requiring a substantial Horse Tax.......

Don't hole your breath on that happening. Read the "other" news sources. Present administration has the EPA on hold for any more of that stuff at least for the time being. Too many E10 engines out there to be damaged by E15 or more as the story goes and is a fact. I read that the EPA budget is being reduced 24% also. P.A. has stated they are against the strangle hold the EPA has on this country and is apparently looking at what is needed and what is pure "big, uncontrolled, government meddling".

I fixed it for you:D

Reduce 80% of 'what' pollution.

In my experience, the fed gov. rarely, if ever, thinks something thru all the way before they make it law. Many of our laws hurt so much more than than help. Think cost benefit or take away from one to give to another.

But E15 will always have E10 next to it at the pump. There are far too many engines that even the EPA recognizes cannot use E15 in them. I have seen many E15 pumps and they are clearly labeled to NOT use the product in 2001 or older engines. But as a side note.... E10 even is not mandated at the federal level. The EPA via the renewable fuel standard just dictates how much ethanol must be used per year nationwide. It does not mandate that every gallon of gas contain the stuff, nor that ethanol free gas not be made available. That annual ethanol level can be used in any percentage clear up to E85, and if more of the higher blends were available and used, that would take the pressure off the regular gas stuff. It is the states themselves that play the E10 or nothing game with folks. I live in ethanol central, surrounded by 46 ethanol plants. The state with the largest corn and ethanol production of any state. Yet, I can get ethanol free at a dozen places within 15 miles of my house. But we also have more of the higher blends available. E15, E20, E30, E50, and E85. And yes.... many folks with flex fuel vehicles do buy the higher blends when the price spreads are good. Fortunately, we don't have a bunch of nincompoops up at the state level who choose to restrict our choices at the pump.

Pumps here say "may be up to 10%. No E0 gas anywhere around here. No 10+% gas either.

You may buy all the E0 gas that you want at your local airport.
Pricey, but can be done! 100LL
Can always be bought at airports, even in states where E0 cannot be sold at gas stations.
